Editor's Note [Positives]
  • Good build quality
  • Nice metal unibody design and brushed metal finish - feels good to hold
  • Smaller and slimmer than the K4 Note
  • Bundled clear cover for protecting the phone
  • Good display - solid brightness levels, contrast ratio, sunlight legibility and viewing angles
  • Display has Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection unlike the K4 Note
  • Lenovo’s Vibe UI adds some useful features on top of Android
  • Good speed/performance, including with games
  • Multitasking is smooth too, thanks to the ample RAM
  • Built-in support for VR glasses, similar to the K4 Note (ANT VR headset has to be purchased separately)
  • Decent, fast rear camera, especially for daylight shots - macro shots are good too and HDR shots came out well
  • The 8MP front-facing camera is good for selfies and video chats - colors are vibrant and the images are sharp as well
  • Fast fingerprint sensor
  • Thanks to Dolby Atmos, Wolfson WM8281 audio codec and 1.5W speaker, loudspeaker output is good and clear even in full volume
  • Audio output through headphones is good as well
  • Good call quality
  • Good battery life - a definite improvement over the K4 Note - lasts a full day
  • Useful power saving modes to further reduce battery consumption
  • Looks quite classy, and despite being a large phone, has good ergonomics
  • Bright, colourful display that has good legibility even under direct sunlight
  • Good performance in day-to-day use, and multitasking, with 4GB RAM
  • Decent 13 MP rear-facing camera - takes good photos in both well-lit and low-lit conditions - autofocus is decently quick too
  • Good front camera, with field of view large enough to fit a few friends in the frame, and capable of capturing a lot of details such as texture and contrast which is uncommon to find in this price bracket
  • The speakers are quite loud and clear
  • The 3, 000 mAh battery is good enough for a whole day’s worth of mixed usage
  • On the whole, the Vivo V5 is a good purchase for someone who wants to click a lot of selfies, and consume media on their phone
Editor's Note [Negatives]
  • Hybrid dual SIM slot lets you either use dual SIMS or a memory card, but not both together
  • No special support for quick charging unlike some of its competitors
  • Low-light camera performance of the phone is strictly average - with plenty of noise in the shots
  • The body, though it looks good, does feel very plasticky and not as well built as the Lenovo Z2 Plus or even the Samsung J7
  • While the overall performance is good, it's not chart leading in this price bracket - heavy games/apps like Modern Combat 5 or Asphalt 8 are not ideal for the phone - and the phone can be a bit laggy after using the camera burst mode
  • Front camera is good overall, but tends of over-expose pictures a little bit
  • The lack of a USB Type C port, and quick charging, is also a negative
