Editor's Note [Positives]
  • Excellent, top-notch build quality
  • Handsome, classy, all-metal design
  • Slim body
  • Basic back cover included in the retail package
  • Excellent, fast fingerprint scanner, embedded in the home button
  • Very good display with exceptional brightness levels, natural looking tones, good contrast levels, and excellent viewing angles
  • ColorOS is fluid, and works well, with some nice gesture controls
  • Very little bloatware
  • Good overall performance
  • Decent overall rear camera, especially for still photography
  • Very good front camera - easily one of the best selfie phones in this price bracket
  • Decent battery life - lasts a full day with moderate use
  • Good loudspeaker
  • Looks quite classy, and despite being a large phone, has good ergonomics
  • Bright, colourful display that has good legibility even under direct sunlight
  • Good performance in day-to-day use, and multitasking, with 4GB RAM
  • Decent 13 MP rear-facing camera - takes good photos in both well-lit and low-lit conditions - autofocus is decently quick too
  • Good front camera, with field of view large enough to fit a few friends in the frame, and capable of capturing a lot of details such as texture and contrast which is uncommon to find in this price bracket
  • The speakers are quite loud and clear
  • The 3, 000 mAh battery is good enough for a whole day’s worth of mixed usage
  • On the whole, the Vivo V5 is a good purchase for someone who wants to click a lot of selfies, and consume media on their phone
Editor's Note [Negatives]
  • A little bit on the heavy side
  • Display resolution could have been better
  • Misses out on fast charging support
  • 1080p video recording quality is subpar
  • The body, though it looks good, does feel very plasticky and not as well built as the Lenovo Z2 Plus or even the Samsung J7
  • While the overall performance is good, it's not chart leading in this price bracket - heavy games/apps like Modern Combat 5 or Asphalt 8 are not ideal for the phone - and the phone can be a bit laggy after using the camera burst mode
  • Front camera is good overall, but tends of over-expose pictures a little bit
  • The lack of a USB Type C port, and quick charging, is also a negative
