Editor's Note [Positives]
  • Excellent design - an evolution of the design pioneered on the Mega 2.5D, the Coolpad Note 5 looks and feels like a positively premium device
  • Ergonomically too, the phone is well designed and despite the larger dimensions of a phone with a 5.5 inch display, it manages to fit well in the hand
  • Fast, accurate fingerprint reader
  • Very good display - with accurate colors, wide viewing angles, and great outdoor visibility
  • Cool UI is a highly customized Android skin with lots of features to add to the Android experience - including the Dual Apps feature (allows you to maintain multiple Facebook & WhatsApp accounts), the floating C button to provide quick access to often used actions on the large display, as well as a multitude of screen based gestures
  • The software in general is very well optimized and tends to run very smoothly
  • On the whole the performance on the device is very good in regular use, and the multitasking experience is great too
  • With it’s 4010mAh battery, the phone performs extremely well in terms of battery life, with close to 2 days of battery life with average usage
  • Nice, premium, polished design
  • Sturdy build quality
  • Given its large size, the weight is quite manageable at 175g
  • Excellent display, perhaps the best at this price point, with great colors and vibrance
  • CynogenMod 12 allows deeper control on the display - you can tweak the colour temperature, and choose different temperatures for day and night
  • The CyanogenMod UI allows a bunch of customisations, that will come in handy if you are a power user, but retains a nearly-stock Android interface
  • The UI is smooth and stable too, and performs well
  • Very good, lag-free performance, even given the somewhat old processor, which indicates how well the software has been optimized
  • Good front camera for selfies
  • Good rear camera in well lit conditions
  • Decent fingerprint sensor
  • Very good battery life - can last over a day fairly easily
  • Very good audio quality
  • If you like modding your smartphone, and have been waiting for a CyanogenMod-powered phone worth buying, this is it
  • The Zuk branded phones are also the only Lenovo devices where rooting won't void the warranty
  • 64GB internal memory
Editor's Note [Negatives]
  • While the performance is pretty good overall, the Snapdragon 617 is not quite the newest or fastest chipset around, falling behind the likes of the Snapdragon 650 powered Redmi Note 3 and Le 2
  • Average rear and front cameras - image details, and dynamic range could certainly have been better
  • Video recording performance is quite average too, with videos often looking grainy and low on details
  • This isn't an ergonomic smartphone - it's quite wide, which puts single handed usage out of question
  • Rear camera could have been better under low-light conditions
  • The camera is also just a little slow in focus speed, compared to it's top competitors in this price range such as the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3
