Editor's Note [Positives]
  • Good build quality with a fibreglass frame to keep the weight down and a magnesium alloy roll cage for sturdiness
  • Chic, premium design (similar to the iPhone 5S)
  • Compact, convenient size with a 5-inch screen making it one of the few easy-to-handle premium smartphones in the market today - something that will appeal to a lot of people who want power and quality, but not large phablet-esque dimensions
  • Manages to keep a relatively slim profile and manageable weight of 150g
  • Fast, accurate fingerprint sensor (embedded in the home button) - significantly improved compared to the Zuk Z1
  • Extended home button functionality is very nicely implemented, and allows for quick navigation via gestures
  • Very good display - sharp, clean and bright, with colours that are fairly accurate and natural-looking
  • Display customization options includes colour temperature, as well as a night mode
  • Lenovo's ZUI launcher, is mostly stock Android, with a few customisations
  • Excellent speed/performance throughout - on par with top-end Android flagship smartphones - and yet at a mid-range price!
  • Very good battery life - can muster over a day and half with moderate use
  • Decent call quality
  • Decent rear camera - handles colours and finer details well
  • The 8-megapixel on the front is also good and delivers crisp and wide shots
  • Premium build quality
  • All-metal unibody design
  • Brilliant, massive 6.4-inch screen that gets good marks on image quality, sharpness and brightness
  • Lively and simple Xiaomi interface, that is comfortably on of the better Android UIs around
  • Very good speed/performance for the class - and a notch above the Mi Max, because of the higher RAM and the newer processor
  • Wired audio quality is perfect - loud and with very little distortion
  • Fast fingerprint scanner
  • Good call quality
  • Astounding battery life, easily one of the best ever on a smartphone, and with particularly great web browsing times - easily lasts 2 days of active use
Editor's Note [Negatives]
  • As is the case with phones that have a glass back, it is a bit of a smudge magnet
  • The charger included in the box is an ordinary 10W unit rather than a Fast Charge 3.0 capable charger - which means that the phone's fast charging capabilities don't get fully utilized
  • Average loudspeaker
  • The phone's enormous size makes it hard to use one-handed
  • It's also heavy and will stick out uncomfortably in your pant's pocket
  • Given the gigantic size, the phone is primarily targeted at those users who consume a lot of media on their device, or want a combined phone-tablet - for more regular users the compromise of a difficult-to-handle size might not be worth it
  • Average sunlight legibility on the display
  • Loudspeaker performance could have been better
  • Average front and rear cameras, that could have been better especially in low light conditions
