Editor's Note [Positives]
  • Excellent build quality
  • Stylish, slim design
  • Very good, sharp display
  • As is the case with all Moto smartphones, the G4 runs on a near-stock version of Android, plus the usual suite of Moto enhancements which include Moto Display (for ambient notifications) and Moto Actions (for gesture actions)
  • No unnecessary bloatware
  • Smooth, lag-free performance
  • Very good battery life - for moderate use cases, you can go nearly a day and half before having to charge the Moto G4
  • Turbo charging support
  • Good front and rear cameras
  • Good audio quality
  • The Moto Series is known for timely Android updates, which is a big plus point
  • Solid build quality
  • Nice, elegant design
  • Comfortable to hold
  • Water-resistant
  • Decent display - images and websites looked fairly crisp and sharp
  • Comes loaded with clean, near stock Android, with almost no bloatware
  • Decent speed/performance - pleasant to use in daily use
  • Decent rear camera - takes pretty good outdoor photos (in mixed light, it takes OK photos, and in low light, it struggles and images tend to have some noise)
  • Decent front camera too - skin tones looked fairly natural in selfies
  • Decent video recording performance - takes serviceable HD videos at 30 fps
  • Nice, loud front-facing speaker
  • Overall reliable hardware and software
  • Very good battery life - easily last for a little more than a day for moderate to heavy usage
  • Removable/replaceable battery
  • One the whole a good option for users looking for an decent device that’s solid, runs well, and has a battery that’ll last all day
Editor's Note [Negatives]
  • No fingerprint sensor, like the Moto G4 Plus
  • Rear camera is good, but a step behind the Moto G4 Plus
  • The bundled Turbo charger, although decent, isn't quite as quick as the one that comes with the Moto G4 Plus
  • Average sunlight legibility of the display
  • Although performance in daily use is good enough, it tends to lag when playing games and taking panoramic photos
  • No fingerprint sensor
  • No gyroscope
  • Bundled charger has a slow charging speed - taking about 4 hours to full charge
