Editor's Note [Positives]
  • Excellent build quality
  • Premium, high-end aluminum unibody design that gives the phone a truly elevated aesthetic compared to its predecessors
  • Super sleek at 7.35mm
  • Chamfered details around the display and charging port catch and reflect light to add to the looks
  • OnePlus' useful notification toggle is carried over from the previous OnePlus device, and is handy as ever
  • Bright, sharp AMOLED display
  • Oxygen OS UI keeps things nice, simple, and close to stock Android, is quite stable, and adds useful touches like the "shelf" homescreen, as well as handy customization options for power users - overall it works very well, and doesn't include any bloatware
  • Breathtaking, and flagship-beating performance backed by powerful hardware and an astounding 6GB of RAM
  • Excellent heat management - the phone doesn't get hot even when put under high stress levels
  • Very good camera, that compares well with the top flagship phones
  • Camera interface is fast, minimalistic, and intuitive
  • Support for 4K video, as well as time-lapse and slow-motion movies
  • Front camera is excellent too
  • Good battery life that is helped by good software optimizations - lasts the whole day even with heavy use
  • Super quick charging battery (OnePlus calls it "Dash Charging") that can completely charge the phone from 0 to 100% in a little more than 1 hour, beating other "quick charging" phones by a good margin
  • Incredibly fast and accurate fingerprint sensor
  • Decent loudspeaker, with good volume levels
  • Excellent audio quality via headphones
  • High quality, premium design, with a metal frame
  • Slim body
  • Well built
  • Beautiful, large display with good brightness levels, contrast, and viewing angles
  • Sony's UI over Android is pretty nice
  • Sony's multimedia apps are better than their stock Android equivalents
  • Good speed/performance in regular use
  • Useful one-handed mode
  • Excellent primary camera with good quality stills and video
  • Excellent selfie camera - offers high-quality stills and videos, great dynamic range, especially with HDR
  • Loudspeaker is loud, and offers good quality
  • Good audio quality via headphones too
Editor's Note [Negatives]
  • No major negatives
  • Large size phones such as the XA Ultra are of course not the easiest to carry around or handle (it's subjective - some people love large devices like these, and others don't)
  • The phone is also on the heavy side, and can put some strain on your hand after prolonged use
  • Average gaming performance
  • HDR image processing by the camera is on the slow side
  • Battery life is decent, but could have been better
