Editor's Note [Positives]
  • Well-built and sturdy
  • Looks nice with a textured back panel
  • Decent HD display with good viewing angles (although sunlight legibility could have been better)
  • Near stock Android interface with a few added features from Xolo like smart awake, quick camera launch, and smart view
  • Decent performance for day-to-day tasks - works well as long as you use it for basic things such as email, social networking, multimedia and calling
  • Decent rear camera - performs quite well, especially in daylight
  • Good front camera - the only one in this price bracket to offer a dual LED flash for the front camera - generally takes above average selfies
  • Supports both 4G and VoLTE, which is uncommon in this price range
  • Compact, smart looking, premium design with a metal build - very similar to the Redmi Note 3, but more easy to handle (because of the smaller size)
  • Excellent ergonomics, with the curves on the back making the phone very comfortable to hold
  • Light-weight with an excellent weight distribution, despite the large battery it holds inside
  • Nice, vibrant, and bright display, with excellent touch-responsiveness, and good viewing angles
  • MIUI is a one of the better Android skins around
  • Good speed/performance (though multi-tasking performance is a notch below the Redmi 3s Prime because of lesser RAM)
  • Excellent battery life - easily lasts a day and a half in regular use
  • Fast, accurate fingerprint sensor
  • Good audio quality
Editor's Note [Negatives]
  • The screen, though pretty good, is a fingerprint magnet and requires constant cleaning
  • No protective coating on display
  • Rear camera images in low light have plenty of noise (although this is pretty much to be expected in this price range)
  • Mediocre battery life - with 4G connectivity and mixed use of calling and camera, the phone tends to run out of battery by the evening — you will need a top-up sometime in the middle of the day to make it through
  • Preloaded with a number of bloatware apps
  • Although basic tasks are fine, but the 1GB RAM feels limiting when taxed with heavy apps/multitasking - it gets overwhelmed quickly, leading to frequent slowdowns and stutters - you will need to keep closing background apps to keep the phone running smoothly
  • With the limited hardware, gaming capability is obviously limited to basic games only
  • Camera is decent, and almost at par with the more expensive Redmi Note 3, but still could have been better, especially with low light performance
  • Loudspeaker volume could have been better
