2-minute Review [Positives]
  • Good looks, good hand-feel, and an ergonomic design
  • Decent fingerprint sensor at the back
  • Also supports face unlock system which works consistently after a remarkably quick enrolment process
  • Modern 18:9 'FullView' display results in a pleasantly manageable phone, despite its 5.7-inch display
  • Decent dual camera setup at the rear - can take good shots in daylight
  • Decent front camera too (you might want to turn off the beauty mode though, as it's too aggressive)
  • Dedicated microSD slot and dual SIM slots
  • Good battery life - should comfortably last the day with moderate to heavy use
  • Slick, premium design - the matte finish of the back offers a good grip, and doesn’t attract fingerprints too much - it also contrasts well with the 2.5D curved-edge display
  • The Infinix Hot 6 Pro also feels fairly light at 158g, with good weight distribution across the entire body
  • The highlight of the phone is tall 18:9, 5.99 inch display and has an HD+ resolution (720x1440) - the screen is bright, and colours are vivid and punchy - watching videos is a generally pleasant experience
  • Infinix's own skin Hummingbird XOS works pretty well, isn't too complicated, and includes some convenience features including a one-handed mode, screen recording, scrolling screenshots, gestures, eye-care mode, and a Game DnD mode
  • Decent loudspeaker - it gets quite loud (although bass is lacking)
  • Good battery life - will give you a day and a half's worth of usage on one charge
2-minute Review [Negatives]
  • It's an all-plastic build, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it does mean that the phone lacks the premium touch of some of the metal phones in this price bracket
  • The display is decent, but certainly could have done with a higher resolution and better outdoor visibility
  • EMUI is not the most refined skin for Android, and comes bundled with plenty of bloatware too (although it does offer plenty of customization)
  • The performance of the phone is ok in day-to-day use, but with the budget Snapdragon 430 at the core, you certainly shouldn't expect very good gaming performance
  • Supports the old microUSB port instead of the modern USB-C
  • No support for fast charging
  • On the whole, the Honor 7A is a pretty solid phone when judged on its own, but it will face some very tough competition from Redmi 5 in this price bracket, which has, among other things, a significantly more powerful processor
  • Both fingerprint and face unlock are a little on the slow side
  • Average overall performance - while the phone runs ok in day-to-day use, the Snapdragon 425 at the core means that anything more than basic use makes the phone stutter - there’s some lag when you’re switching between apps, and scrolling through heavy webpages in Chrome can get jerky
  • Average dual rear camera setup - the details of nearby objects in landscape shots are alright, but pretty much everything else has grainy details, blurry edges, and subdued colours - HDR mode is pretty average too - and the portrait mode often misses the mark on edge detection
  • Average selfie camera too
  • No fast charging support - it takes nearly three and half hours to fully charge this phone
  • On the whole, the Hot 6 Pro is a decent phone, but it's in a very competitive price bracket, and will find it tough to compete against the likes of the Xiaomi Redmi 5 which offers a much better all-round performance

  2. The Honor 7A simply doesn’t provide enough of an improvement over its predecessor, let alone a credible alternative to its entry-level rivals.
