Our Opinion

The Vivo V7 Plus is a slightly better phone, but the Huawei Honor 9 Lite (4GB RAM, 64GB) is significantly better value for money. Which phone should you buy? Depends on how much your want to spend!

2-minute Review [Positives]
  • Looks stunning, with an beautiful glass-based build - making it stand out amongst the competition in this price range - an elegant and modern design, executed almost perfectly
  • The phone is also slim, compact, and pocketable - which, amongst a sea of mammoth phablets, is again a design choice that a lot of people will appreciate
  • Decent face unlock functionality - one of the cheapest devices right now to boast the same!
  • Very good edge-to-edge 5.65-inch full-HD+ screen with an 18:9 aspect ratio, and with good sharpness, and brightness levels, making it one of the best displays in this price bracket
  • EMUI is pretty decent and has some nice add-ons to standard Android functionality, like split screen notifications, and dynamic fonts
  • Good day-to-day performance backed by the solid Kirin 659 SoC (it's on par with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC)
  • Dual camera setups on both the rear and front sides make for some good bokeh shots
  • Decent 3, 000mAh battery under the hood - the phone will get through the day on a single charge (having said that, there are better battery life phones in this price bracket)
  • Premium, stylish, sleek design
  • The fingerprint sensor at the back is quick and can also be used to click images
  • Beautiful, large, immersive Full View Display (Infinity Display), that is great for watching videos
  • Vivo's FunTouch UI is decent, and largely inspired from iOS
  • Seamless performance in day-to-day use, and multitasking and gaming are managed well too
  • The phone also remains cool, even when pushed
  • Comes with dedicated two SIM card slots and a micro SD-Card slot as well (unlike the hybrid approach taken by some of the competition)
  • Excellent selfie camera with a portrait bokeh effect available for your selfies - one of the best selfie cameras on any phone
  • Rear camera is decent too (though not great) and takes decent images in daylight, producing pleasing colors
  • Decent 1080p videos - come out with good contrast and colors
  • Decent loudspeaker
  • Good audio quality via headphones too
  • Good battery life - comfortably lasts the day with moderate use
2-minute Review [Negatives]
  • The glass based design means that if you drop it, you can do some damage to the device, so using a case would be a good idea
  • The EMUI interface is now cleaner than before, but still not as simple and no-nonsense as stock Android
  • While the cameras are good with bokeh shots, standard photography is average and could have had better detail, brightness and composure - in roughly this price range, you’ll get better photography from the slightly more expensive Xiaomi Mi A1, which uses its dual-camera setup more effectively and delivers on everyday photography a bit better
  • Takes a little over two hours to charge using the bundled 10W charger - fast charging support would have been a nice-to-have
  • On the whole, while it's a good phone, this is a very competitive price range - the Xiaomi Mi A1, Moto G5S Plus and Huawei’s own Honor 7X will give the phone a tough fight - while Honor 9 Lite is arguably the best looking of all, it is not the most powerful of the lot, and the cameras, while decent, are not class leading
  • Plastic body
  • Display resolution could have been better
  • Although daily performance is good, the phone is not meant for power users - there are better performing phones available in this price bracket
  • Rear camera performance in low light is average
  • No fast charging support
