2-minute Review [Positives]
  • Well built
  • Stylish, premium design - full metal body and a bezel-less display with 2.5D curved glass
  • Quite compact, and easy to pocket
  • The FullView bezel-less display looks gorgeous and makes for a good media consumption device
  • EMUI interface on top of Android works well, and is easy to use
  • Good, snappy speed/performance all-round
  • The major USP of the Honor 9i is of course the quad-camera setup, and it works well
  • The primary camera on the Honor 9i includes a 16-megapixel lens coupled with a 2-megapixel lens for depth effect and an LED flash - the image results are quite crisp and well balanced - there are also loads of filters and modes for users to choose from
  • Video recording also gives you an option to have bokeh effect frames for still shooting
  • Upfront the Honor 9i comes with another dual-camera setup - the Honor 9i carries a 13-megapixel and a 2-megapixel lens along with a selfie toning flash - the selfies come out well, including with the bokeh effect - comfortably one of the best selfie cams in this price bracket
  • Decent battery life - lasts the day with moderate use
  • On the whole, the Honor 9i has an edge above its top competitors like the Vivo V7+ and the LG Q6, in terms of the fact that it offers both a good-looking bezel-less display, but also a pretty good set of cameras (the cameras on LG Q6, and Vivo V7+ are less capable)
  • Premium, sleek, glass-based design - this is easily the best looking Moto G to date
  • The rear edges of the G6 Plus are curved, and that allows it to sit much more comfortably in the palm of your hand than previous models – if you've seen the Samsung Galaxy S7, it’s a similar curvature on the back
  • Motorola has also kept the fingerprint sensor on the front of the phone, just below the display, but it doesn’t take up much space, so the bottom bezel is quite thin and looks good. The sensor is easy to hit, and works efficiently
  • Top-quality, modern, bright, Full HD+ IPS LCD display with then new 18:9 display ratio - it has good colors, and viewing angles too
  • Moto continues to excel in the software part, keeping the UI close to stock Android while adding just the right set of add-ons like Moto Actions (gesture control), night display, and fingerprint sensor based navigation
  • Good, solid performance, backed by the Snapdragon 630 - does well under all use cases, including games
  • Good set of dual rear cameras - pretty good for this price bracket - the focus is really quick, and pictures come out crisp and natural, and the portrait mode is decently implemented too
  • The phone also comes with image recognition software that enables you to take photos of objects you come across, or landmarks in a city you’re visiting, and get information about them, for example a Wikipedia page, or details of where you can buy an item
  • On the front of the Moto G6 Plus is a 8MP selfie camera, which is pretty decent too - it also has a filters mode, which overlays Snapchat-like frippery such as cat features or bunny ears (though it takes a long time to process images)
  • The front camera also has an effective group selfie mode that works similar to a panoramic images mode
  • Video recording is decent too, and there is a pretty decent slow-mo mode too
  • Good, powerful loudspeaker
  • Good battery life - will comfortably last the day with moderate to heavy use
  • Fast charging support
  • On the whole, the Moto G6 Plus looks great, has good software, performs good, and has a good set of cameras - all in all its a strong choice in this price bracket - it's a solid step up from it's younger cousin, the Moto G6, with better performance, camera and battery life - and could compete well with the likes of Nokia 6.1 (which has a more premium build, but lacks dual rear cameras) and the Redmi Note 5 Pro (which has better performance and battery, but lacks stock Android)
2-minute Review [Negatives]
  • The back is quite prone to fingerprint smudges
  • Sunlight legibility of the display could have been better
  • Uses the older microUSB standard instead of the modern USB-C standard
  • Doesn't support fast charging
  • A bit on the tall side - not as easy to grip as the smaller Moto G6
