2-minute Review [Positives]
  • Nice design with metal unibody and curved Gorilla Glass on the front
  • Good build quality
  • The back is slightly curved so the Lenovo Phab 2 Plus sits comfortably in your palm
  • The fingerprint sensor on the back works well and authentication is fast and painless
  • Good, large display - crisp, good colour reproduction, and good sunlight legibility
  • Near-stock implementation of Android, with only a custom icon set, keeping things nice and simple
  • Other added features include a one-handed mode, auto-answering a call when you bring the phone to your ear, smart shortcut floating menu etc.
  • Decent loudspeaker - gets fairly loud compared to most other phones with a single speaker - and audio quality is decent for games and other media
  • Videos look great on the large screen and the phone handles up to 1080p files
  • Decent battery life (though not great, even with a 4050 mAH rating) - lasts the day with moderate use
  • Even though there’s no official fast charging - but the included 10W charger manages to top up the phone within a couple of hours, which is pretty good
  • Decent front 8-megapixel camera - manages decent pictures in day/ under natural light (but doesn’t do so well under artificial lighting)
  • Premium build quality
  • All-metal unibody design
  • Brilliant, massive 6.4-inch screen that gets good marks on image quality, sharpness and brightness
  • Lively and simple Xiaomi interface, that is comfortably on of the better Android UIs around
  • Very good speed/performance for the class
  • Wired audio quality is perfect - loud and with very little distortion
  • Fast fingerprint scanner
  • Good call quality
  • Astounding battery life, easily one of the best ever on a smartphone, and with particularly great web browsing times - easily lasts 2 days of active use
2-minute Review [Negatives]
  • The Phab 2 Plus is a massive phone and despite Lenovo trying its best to minimize the footprint with thin bezels, it still requires two hands to operate, is cumbersome to carry around, and sticks out of your trouser pocket - the weight too is pretty hefty at 218 grams
  • The ambient light sensor is a little slow to react at times
  • The performance is decent in regular use, but begins to throttle once you try juggling between apps, using the AR features of the camera, or basically anything CPU intensive - gaming performance too is limited - as a whole, this SoC is definitely weaker than the Snapdragon 6xx series chips which we see in many other phones in this price range - the phone deserved better
  • The phones also heats up quickly if you’re watching a video, using the camera or even having a long call - heat can be felt along the edges where the buttons and the headphones socket are placed, and the back
  • Average rear camera - struggles to capture good details in distant objects (although macro shots fare much better) - the dual-camera doesn't appear to add much value - and once the phone starts to heat up, focusing speeds dip, and the app begins to lag
  • Earpiece volume is a little on the low side, so listening to calls in noisy environments can get difficult
  • The phone's enormous size makes it hard to use one-handed
  • It's also heavy and will stick out uncomfortably in your pant's pocket
  • Given the gigantic size, the phone is primarily targeted at those users who consume a lot of media on their device, or want a combined phone-tablet - for more regular users the compromise of a difficult-to-handle size might not be worth it
  • Average sunlight legibility on the display
  • Loudspeaker performance could have been better
  • Average front and rear cameras, that could have been better especially in low light conditions
