2-Minute Review

Let's cut through the noise, and get to the crux of it. 7 Expert Reviews analysed and summarised by the PhoneCurry Editorial Team, in a short and sweet 2-minute review.

Design

  • Good build quality
  • Easy to hold and use in one hand
  • Uninspiring looks

Display

  • Dual display is a unique concept
  • Sharp IPS display
  • Small display size (for both primary, and secondary displays)
  • The E-Ink display, which is the USP of the phone, unfortunately has a low 640x360-pixel resolution, which makes text and icons look fuzzy
  • The E-Ink display has a significant 'burning-in-effect' of images, which means every new image shows a faint ghost of the previous image over the top

Software

  • The gesture based Android interface takes some time to pick up
  • The dedicated touch area for gestures below the screen tends to be unresponsive at timers
  • Limited app support for the secondary screen - only few inbuilt apps in the Yotaphone are supported currently

Performance

  • Decent performance in day-to-day use

Camera

  • Decent camera quality
  • Camera is oddly placed in the bottom left-hand corner - making it difficult to keep your finger out of shot when holding the phone in landscape mode and almost impossible when shooting in portrait mode

Battery

  • Decent battery life

More

  • E-Ink notifications are useful
  • Random restart issues
