What We Liked

  • Fairly well-built, without any creaking parts or sharp edges
  • Very light at 133 grams
  • Indus OS 2.0 UI doesn’t tamper too much with stock Android design, apart from a custom launcher and icons
  • Its key strength is the Indus keyboard, which lets users translate and transliterate local languages - a very useful feature for those more comfortable conversing in their native language than English
  • Decent rear speaker with good volume levels

What We Didn't

  • Looks and feels like an entry-level device
  • The capacitive navigation keys aren't very sensitive, and you will find yourself occasionally having to tap them multiple times to register your input
  • Doesn’t have a fingerprint sensor
  • Average display - sunlight legibility could have been better, touch response is sub-par, colour reproduction is also strictly average, with exaggerated reds and muted tones
  • The UI itself is a little sluggish - there is a slight but noticeable lag throughout the OS, when swiping between home screens and when switching between apps
  • Another annoyance is the sheer number of apps that are preinstalled - while you can uninstall most, there are some that cannot be removed, which is a shame if you have no use for them
  • USB OTG isn’t supported
  • Average front and rear cameras - closeup shots, which often lack sharpness, low-light are soft and light metering goes for a toss, video recording is strictly average under good lighting and barely usable at night
  • The phone's 3000mAh battery seems large enough on paper, but real-life performance is just about average - with regular usage, you won't be able to get through even one full day on a single charge
  • On the whole, it only makes sense going for this phone if you’ll be using the native language features a lot, because otherwise you can do a lot better in this bracket with phones by Xiaomi, or Lenovo, or even Samsung
