Our Opinion

The iVOOMi i1s is a slightly better phone, but the 10.or D (3GB RAM, 32GB) is slightly better value for money. Which phone should you buy? It’s a close call, but if your budget allows for it, then iVOOMi i1s might be a slightly better choice.

2-minute Review [Positives]
  • Basic, simple, plastic-based design, with the back panel sporting a metallic finish
  • The compact size, curved edges and rounded corners make this phone easy to hold in one hand
  • Sports a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner making it one of very few smartphones in this price range to offer this feature - the fingerprint scanner is also fairly accurate
  • Decent display - has good contrast and decent viewing angles
  • Almost stock Android UI keeps things nice and simple with very little bloatware
  • Good solid hardware with the reliable Snapdragon 425 powering the performance - in daily use, there is no lag or stutter (of course there will be relatively long load times for heavier apps and games)
  • Good thermal management of the processor
  • Good battery life - slightly better than it's top competitor - the Redmi 5A - lasts the day comfortably
  • On the whole, the 10.or D is a decent alternative to the Redmi 5A, and even has one advantage over it - the presence of a fingerprint sensor
  • Decent fingerprint sensor at the back - unlocking the phone is convenient and smooth
  • Looks smart and sporty, with an infinity edge display - putting it in a unique position among budget phones
  • The 18:9 Infinity Edge display looks good (the screen has good brightness, wide viewing angles and rich colours), and gives a good experience while watching videos, or browsing
  • Decent dual-rear-camera set-up on the back - amongst the better dual cameras you would see on budget offerings - takes good pictures especially in good lighting conditions- and has a decent bokeh mode
  • Loud audio output via speaker
  • Decent battery life - the 3000mAh non-removable battery lasts the work day
2-minute Review [Negatives]
  • The smartphone is quite thick at 8.98mm and weighs 150gms which makes it heavier and slightly bulkier than the Xiaomi Redmi 5A
  • The position of the power button requires you to stretch your thumb to reach it
  • There is no ambient light sensor, so you will have to adjust brightness manually as needed
  • No scratch protection on display - so you will need to use a screen protector
  • Average rear and front cameras - the landscape shots lack detail, the output is dull, the camera is slow to detect exposure and lock focus, low light shots are poor - like other phones in this price segment, the camera performance is mediocre at best
  • Charging speed is on the slow side - over 3 hours to go from 0 to 100%
  • The bezels on the top and bottom are on the larger side compared to other 18:9 display phones - taking away some of the compact size advantage of such phones
  • The glossy body finish attracts too many smudges and scratches
  • Average performance — the interface tends to be sluggish at times (things improve a little bit with a 3rd party launcher)
  • Which the rear cameras are pretty decent, there is a 1 second shutter lag in the camera which often leads to blurry images
  • Average front camera - apart from the same issue of shutter lag, it suffers from soft details and under-saturated colours
  • Battery life is decent but given the mAH rating should have been better
  • No fast charging support
  • Weighing 165 g, the smartphone is slightly on the heavier side
  • On the whole, if you are looking for a smartphone with 18:9 aspect display on a budget, the iVoomi i1s is a pretty decent option, but it is a bit behind the InFocus Vision 3, its primary competitor, on some important things — screen & build quality, battery life and performance - and if you don't care much for an infinity display, then the likes of Redmi 5A or the 10.or D are much better value for money

  3. It checks the boxes for everything a first-time buyer would want from an entry-level Android phone, but in the face of stiff competition from the likes of Xiaomi, that isn't enough.
