2-minute Review [Positives]
  • Beautiful, all-metal, understated design
  • Fast, accurate fingerprint scanner
  • Despite featuring a 5.5-inch screen, the ZenFone 3 Laser fits relatively easy in one hand
  • Good full-HD IPS display - good color reproduction, rich blacks, good brightness level, decent sunlight legibility, wide viewing angles
  • ZenUI interface has improved over time and the latest version is lighter, cleaner, and uncluttered
  • Good overall speed/performance
  • Decent rear camera - has a fast (laser) focus, captures good amount of detail, and has decent colour reproduction
  • Does decently well with low-light conditions too
  • Video recording performance is also good with the electronic image stabilisation (EIS) feature coming in handy
  • The front camera is also decent and takes selfies quickly
  • Bundled earphones are decent for music quality with minimal distortion at higher volumes
  • Decent battery life - lasts the day with moderate use
  • Good overall design, and build quality - glass and metal construction
  • Relatively slim, ergonomic, and easy to carry around in your pocket - despite the big battery
  • Fast fingerprint scanner
  • Nice, potent display
  • Decent speed/performance (though definitely lagging behind the top performers in this price range, because of the entry level SoC)
  • Decent rear camera - with better image results than the previous iteration of the Max
  • Good audio quality
  • Loudspeaker is also quite good for watching videos and listening to music on the go
  • Excellent battery backup, of almost two days (beating out the older Zenfone Max)
  • Relatively fast charging time - the included 10W charger manages to top up the phone in a couple of hours
2-minute Review [Negatives]
  • The display is a fingerprint magnet and you will need to clean it from time to time
  • Although the UI itself is light, the phones comes loaded with plenty of bloatware including Asus's own apps like Themes, Photo Collage, Mini Movie, ZenCircle, ZenSync, Weather, Do It Later, Game Genie, ZenFone Care, and Cover
  • The overall speed/performance is strictly middling and falls significantly behind other top phones at this price level
  • Average loudspeaker
  • The ZenFone 3 Laser, unlike other ZenFone 3 smartphones, doesn't support fast charging
  • Lacks fast charging support
  • The edges of the Micro-USB port and the two screws on the bottom are a bit sharp
  • No Gorilla Glass protection on the display
  • Asus's UI over Android is well optimized and offers some interesting additions, but does have a lot of bloatware (over 20 preinstalled apps)
  • Gaming performance is behind the curve
  • Average front camera - the beautification modes tend to overdo things at times, and the images are not that detailed
