2-minute Review [Positives]
  • The phone is a stunner - sports a beautiful, premium glass body design - arguably, in this price segment, this is the best-designed phone that money can buy
  • There is no camera bump at the rear of the device which makes the back of this device seamless and comfortable to hold
  • There is also a fingerprint sensor at the back that nicely integrates with the body shell of the phone
  • Good 5.2-inch display - is bright and offers great viewing angles as well
  • Huawei's EMUI is significantly improved from before, and works smoothly - it also has some useful add-ons like floating dock, motion control, and one-handed UI
  • Good, solid performance throughout - has more than enough firepower that you'll need for your daily usage, with no heating issues, or app crashes
  • There is also 4GB RAM on offer and the RAM management on the Honor 8 Lite is better than many of its competitors
  • Decent rear camera - the camera app is easy to use and does offer some great software add-ons like HDR, Document Scan, Panorama, Light Painting, Time-lapse, slow-mo, watermark and Audio Note
  • The front 8-megapixel camera is pretty good too
  • Pretty good battery life - lasts the day even with heavy use
  • Comes with an extended 15 month service warranty, with door pick-up and drop service
  • Looks stunning, with an beautiful glass-based build - making it stand out amongst the competition in this price range - an elegant and modern design, executed almost perfectly
  • The phone is also slim, compact, and pocketable - which, amongst a sea of mammoth phablets, is again a design choice that a lot of people will appreciate
  • Decent face unlock functionality - one of the cheapest devices right now to boast the same!
  • Very good edge-to-edge 5.65-inch full-HD+ screen with an 18:9 aspect ratio, and with good sharpness, and brightness levels, making it one of the best displays in this price bracket
  • EMUI is pretty decent and has some nice add-ons to standard Android functionality, like split screen notifications, and dynamic fonts
  • Good day-to-day performance backed by the solid Kirin 659 SoC (it's on par with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC)
  • Dual camera setups on both the rear and front sides make for some good bokeh shots
  • Decent 3, 000mAh battery under the hood - the phone will get through the day on a single charge (having said that, there are better battery life phones in this price bracket)
2-minute Review [Negatives]
  • Comes with a standard micro USB for charging and data transfer, instead of the more modern USB-C protocol on some of it's competitors
  • Doesn't support fast charging, which is again present on some of its competitors
  • The glass based design means that if you drop it, you can do some damage to the device, so using a case would be a good idea
  • The EMUI interface is now cleaner than before, but still not as simple and no-nonsense as stock Android
  • While the cameras are good with bokeh shots, standard photography is average and could have had better detail, brightness and composure - in roughly this price range, you’ll get better photography from the slightly more expensive Xiaomi Mi A1, which uses its dual-camera setup more effectively and delivers on everyday photography a bit better
  • Takes a little over two hours to charge using the bundled 10W charger - fast charging support would have been a nice-to-have
  • On the whole, while it's a good phone, this is a very competitive price range - the Xiaomi Mi A1, Moto G5S Plus and Huawei’s own Honor 7X will give the phone a tough fight - while Honor 9 Lite is arguably the best looking of all, it is not the most powerful of the lot, and the cameras, while decent, are not class leading
