2-minute Review [Positives]
  • Looks stunning, with an beautiful glass-based build - making it stand out amongst the competition in this price range - an elegant and modern design, executed almost perfectly
  • The phone is also slim, compact, and pocketable - which, amongst a sea of mammoth phablets, is again a design choice that a lot of people will appreciate
  • Decent face unlock functionality - one of the cheapest devices right now to boast the same!
  • Very good edge-to-edge 5.65-inch full-HD+ screen with an 18:9 aspect ratio, and with good sharpness, and brightness levels, making it one of the best displays in this price bracket
  • EMUI is pretty decent and has some nice add-ons to standard Android functionality, like split screen notifications, and dynamic fonts
  • Good day-to-day performance backed by the solid Kirin 659 SoC (it's on par with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC)
  • Dual camera setups on both the rear and front sides make for some good bokeh shots
  • Decent 3, 000mAh battery under the hood - the phone will get through the day on a single charge (having said that, there are better battery life phones in this price bracket)
  • Full metal unibody design, and good build quality
  • Rounded sides make it comfortable to hold
  • The fingerprint scanner is generally quick and easy to use
  • Very good display - bright and vivid with decent sunlight legibility - great for watching videos and games
  • Samsung's UI over Android 6.0 is neat and simple while adding a number of additional features like one-handed operation mode, smart alert makes the phone vibrate when you pick it up to notify you about missed calls and messages, easy mute, S bike mode, Ultra data saving mode, and locking/privacy options
  • Decent all-round performance - handles almost everything you throw at it - including games, and multi-tasking
  • Decent rear and front cameras under daylight conditions - most of the shots taken by the smartphone have decent colours and are crisp - and the handset is able to lock focus quickly
  • Video recording quality is decent too and audio is also crisp
  • Decent loudspeaker output
  • Good call quality
  • Good audio quality
  • Decent battery life - lasts a day with moderate use
2-minute Review [Negatives]
  • The glass based design means that if you drop it, you can do some damage to the device, so using a case would be a good idea
  • The EMUI interface is now cleaner than before, but still not as simple and no-nonsense as stock Android
  • While the cameras are good with bokeh shots, standard photography is average and could have had better detail, brightness and composure - in roughly this price range, you’ll get better photography from the slightly more expensive Xiaomi Mi A1, which uses its dual-camera setup more effectively and delivers on everyday photography better
  • Takes a little over two hours to charge using the bundled 10W charger - fast charging support would have been a nice-to-have
  • On the whole, while it's a good phone, this is a very competitive price range - the Xiaomi Mi A1, Moto G5S Plus and Huawei’s own Honor 7X will give the phone a tough fight - while Honor 9 Lite is arguably the best looking of all, it is not the most powerful of the lot, and the cameras, while decent, are not class leading
  • The fingerprint scanner works well mostly, but can be iffy at times
  • Tends to crash/heat-up occasionally when putting under stress
  • Low light camera performance could have been better
  • Lacks support for quick charging (which is present in some of its competitors)
  • Lacks ambient light sensor, gyroscope and magnetic sensor
