2-minute Review [Positives]
  • Sleek, well-built, classy design - the smartphone feels premium in terms of material used as well as the fit and finish
  • The bundled case adds grip to the slippery metal smartphone
  • The front facing fingerprint sensor is gesture enabled just like Moto gestures on the Moto phones - you can touch the fingerprint sensor to go back, touch and hold to go back home and slide left or right to see the multitasking menu - it’s quite functional once you get used to it - it also frees up the displays real estate from onscreen buttons
  • Beautiful, vibrant 18:9 edge-to-edge display, with very good sunlight legibility
  • Good set of AI/Intelligent features add to the phone's usefulness - camera person/object recognition for portrait mode, smart face unlocked notifications, intelligent display orientation, intelligent reading mode - it's all useful stuff and things that simply work, without requiring any involvement from your side
  • Fast and fluid performance all through, comparable to OnePlus 5T and other flagship phones - everything from daily use to high-end graphic games is buttery smooth
  • Very good dual rear camera setup - put simply, images clicked from the phone in both day light and low-lit shots are well-done - in fact bokeh images clicked on the View 10 are somewhat better than the other excellent camera phone of this price bracket, the OnePlus 5T
  • The front facing camera is pretty decent too - and offers few nifty features, Snapchat like AR based filters, software based background softening (bokeh) with the single front facing camera, etc
  • With the overall camera performance, if we were to draw a comparison with the excellent OnePlus 5T, the Honor View 10 is in the same league with in fact slightly better low-light performance and bokeh mode
  • The sound from the mono speaker is pretty decent - you can enjoy a YouTube video at full volume in a decently populated noisy office and still get by without feeling the need for higher decibel levels
  • Good battery life - comparable to the OnePlus 5T - you can easily run the device for a full work-heavy day with plenty of battery to spare
  • Fast charging support - goes from 0 to 100 in 90 minutes - though it's not quite as fast as the OnePlus 5T with Dash Charging, it is still quite fast
  • Dual-4G standby is one feature that no other phone can boast of today, and might be important to many users
  • On the whole, this is the best device by Honor to date, and will give some tough competition to the excellent OnePlus 5T - it's a close call between the two, with the Honor coming out slightly ahead in the camera, and the OnePlus 5T coming out ahead in the UI, and faster battery charging
  • Gorgeous looking metal and glass build - it's high-end style at a reasonable price
  • Comfortable design for one-handed use - with a 5.2-inch scale the Moto X hits the sweet spot for scale - it's easy to hold in one hand - comfortably, too, thanks to those rounded-off edges - without feeling like it's a chore to extend fingers across the screen
  • Waterproofing, with IP68 weather-resistant construction
  • Some of Motorola's add-ons include Moto Key to unlock additional devices via fingerprint (like your PC), Moto Actions to perform features by physical actions (including new stuff like ‘Attentive Display’ which keeps the screen on as long as you are looking at it and dims it and eventually turns it off if you are looking away, to save more battery), Moto Display for always-on display, Moto Voice for an always-on voice assistant, Wireless Sound System (to connect up to five Bluetooth devices - if you fancy having a bit of a party with a stack of speakers)
  • Good, punchy display with nice contrast and colours
  • Effective front-facing fingerprint scanner with gesture control
  • The software continues to be stock Android supplemented with some intelligent Moto applications - an approach that has worked very well for Motorola and earned it a lot of fans
  • Good/smooth performance in regular use
  • Decent dual camera setup on the rear - does reasonably well with both normal shots and bokeh shots, especially in good light
  • Decent front camera too
  • Other Camera features include a barcode, QR code and business card reader, which is auto-entered into the device, plus object and landmark object recognition to gain additional insights into famous places
  • Good battery life, assisted by an efficient processor, and a relatively smaller screen - should comfortably last the day even with heavy use
  • Fast charging (TurboCharge) support
  • Things like Moto Actions and the other set of accessibility features have set the company apart from the competition and actually made good use of the sensors, making operating the phone much easier - they also help the power user to increase their productivity
2-minute Review [Negatives]
  • The display is very good on it's own, but arguably a little behind the OnePlus 5T, which has better contrast being an AMOLED display
  • The EMUI software on the whole is pretty decent, and fluid throughout, but a little cluttered - most users might prefer the simpler, close-to-stock approach of the likes of OnePlus
  • There is no edge-to-edge display here that is becoming more common now among both mid-range and flagship devices
  • While the performance is good in daily use, when pushed with the heavy apps/games, the performance is not quite to the level of the phone's top competitors - in fact the performance is only a little bit better compared to its budget cousin - the Moto G5S Plus
  • The cameras placed on the back, in a large protruding circular section, makes for a unique look - something that may or may not be to your taste
  • The camera app is somewhat slow to launch and a little slow to focus
  • On the whole too, the camera is decent, but there are certainly better camera phones in this price bracket - the sluggish HDR, slow focus speeds in video and the not-always-effective bokeh mode will leave you wanting more
  • On the whole, the Moto X4 might be a good option only if you are really keen to get a compact phone, but generally in terms of both performance and camera, there are better phones in this price bracket
