2-minute Review [Positives]
  • Slick, premium design - the matte finish of the back offers a good grip, and doesn’t attract fingerprints too much - it also contrasts well with the 2.5D curved-edge display
  • The Infinix Hot 6 Pro also feels fairly light at 158g, with good weight distribution across the entire body
  • The highlight of the phone is tall 18:9, 5.99 inch display and has an HD+ resolution (720x1440) - the screen is bright, and colours are vivid and punchy - watching videos is a generally pleasant experience
  • Infinix's own skin Hummingbird XOS works pretty well, isn't too complicated, and includes some convenience features including a one-handed mode, screen recording, scrolling screenshots, gestures, eye-care mode, and a Game DnD mode
  • Decent loudspeaker - it gets quite loud (although bass is lacking)
  • Very good battery life - will give you a day and a half's worth of usage on one charge
  • Good looks
  • With a glossy plastic back panel coated with 10 layers of nano chrome particles and a modern, tall display, Infinix Note 5 feels premium and good to hold, and is easily one of the best built phone in this price bracket
  • The phone does not have antenna lines at the back, and with the subtle Android One and Infinix branding, it adds a neat look to the rear panel
  • Bright display, with vivid colours, in the new 18:9 aspect ratio - it renders good colour reproduction with wide viewing angles
  • The USP of the phone of course is that it's part of the Android One series, which means you get simple stock Android, and a guarantee of updates for 2 years
  • Good day-to-day performance, with a mid-tier MediaTek Helio P23 (similar to Snapdragon 625) - everything, except very heavy games, will run smoothly
  • Decent set of rear and front cameras, especially in daylight
  • Both cameras also have a software based portrait/bokeh mode, that works reasonably well, as well as scene-recognition AI features
  • Extra long battery life, with a solid 4500mah battery - with moderate use, the phone will comfortably lasts for one and a half days
  • Fast charging support
  • On the whole, the Infinix Note 5 is a worthy option in the budget segment, and can compete well against the likes of the Redmi Note 5 (which is slightly ahead on software customisability and overall build quality, but slightly behind on software simplicity and battery backup)
2-minute Review [Negatives]
  • Both fingerprint and face unlock are a little on the slow side
  • Just about ok overall performance - while the phone runs ok in day-to-day use, the Snapdragon 425 at the core means that anything more than basic use makes the phone stutter - there’s some lag when you’re switching between apps, and scrolling through heavy webpages in Chrome can get jerky
  • Average dual rear camera setup - when the lighting condition is ideal, it can take decent shots but detailing is not too great - and the portrait mode often misses the mark on edge detection
  • Average selfie camera too
  • No fast charging support - it takes nearly three and half hours to fully charge this phone
  • On the whole, the Hot 6 Pro is a decent phone, but it's in a very competitive price bracket, and will likely find it tough to compete against the likes of the Xiaomi Redmi 5 which offers significantly better all-round performance
  • The shiny back panel easily attracts fingerprints, smudges and scratches
  • The fingerprint sensor on the phone is a bit on the slow side
  • The display on the phone, while pretty nice, is also reflective and therefore outdoor visibility is average
  • While the cameras are pretty decent in well-lit conditions, they are average in low light
