2-minute Review [Positives]
  • Good build quality and design - significantly improved over the Moto G4
  • Ergonomic, compact, extremely comfortable to hold - great for single handed operation - which is somewhat of a rarity these days
  • Decent display - it's not the most vibrant, but color accuracy is good, and sunlight legibility is decent too
  • Simple, stock-like Android interface, with integrated Google Assistant, along with the regular Moto add-ons like gestures, and the "Always On" display
  • Decent everyday performance - it's mostly a smooth run, with no hiccups - also handles games well
  • Decent battery life - should last you the day with moderate use - though it's not as good as many of its top competitors
  • The fingerprint sensor also incorporates "one-button navigation" allowing you to replace the on-screen navigation buttons with gestures on the fingerprint sensor, thus giving you more display real estate
  • All-metal body with a nice finish - a big improvement from the polycarbonate used on the Moto G5
  • Fingerprint reader works flawlessly
  • Pretty light at 157g for a metal phone, and also more ergonomic than it's larger cousin the Moto G5S Plus - making it easier to use with one hand
  • Decent display with good viewing angles
  • Good battery life - comfortably lasts the work day even with heavy use - it is even better than the already good battery life of the Moto G5S Plus, because of the smaller display
  • Like other Moto phones, the Moto G5S Plus uses a virtually untouched version of Android rather than a custom interface - keeping things nice and simple
  • The simple but useful Moto add-ons remain of course, including the Moto Display (ambient display notifications), and added gesture support
  • Decent performance - the phone handles everyday tasks smoothly, and doesn't feel like a slouch
  • Decent rear camera - details are preserved well in outdoor shots - and it does a good job with macro shots too
  • Decent front camera too
  • Solid speaker - its pretty loud and has the extra shot of lower-frequency power needed in a tiny speaker to avoid sounding reedy and harsh
  • Fast charging support - full charge takes 60-70 minutes
  • Water-repellent nano-coating for protection against accidental splashes
2-minute Review [Negatives]
  • Tends to heat up a bit when pushed in terms of performance
  • Average camera - in well lit conditions, the camera can do a decent job, but reduce the light, and you start losing details fast
  • Lacklustre speaker - lacks bass and volume
  • 16GB storage will get limiting if you like downloading a lot of apps
  • The displays is decent but reflective, and so tends to struggle under direct sunlight
  • The rear camera does not do as well with landscapes, and indoor shots
  • The bundled headset is pretty average
  • Tends to get a little warm when charging
