Our Opinion

The realme C1 is a slightly better phone than the Oppo A3s (2GB RAM, 16GB), and is also slightly better value for money. What should you buy? Go for the realme C1!

2-minute Review [Positives]
  • Modern, appealing design language, with a notch-based tall display, that is uncommon to see at this price point
  • Good build quality
  • The 6.2-inch HD+ display is pretty decent, and has good brightness levels (though colours on screen look somewhat washed out and don't pop as much as one would like, and the resolution is on the low side too)
  • ColorOS UI adds some useful features like Face Unlock, and Game Space (which, kicks in when you're playing games and enhances the graphics and offloads some memory so that you have a smooth gaming experience)
  • Decent loudspeaker
  • The highlight of the phone is its stellar battery life - you will get a good two days of battery life on average use
  • Premium design with a glass back - one of the rare premium-looking smartphones in the ultra-budget range - both the Blue and Black colour options look attractive
  • Comfortable to hold in your hands - does not feel big or slippery
  • Decent, big, immersive, 6.2-inch HD+ fullscreen 'notch' display - the colours look nice and the viewing angles are decent
  • Good performance for this price bracket - backed by a solid Snapdragon 450 - you will face no issues when it comes to handling daily tasks like WhatsApp, Facebook, streaming music or watching a video
  • Decent dual rear camera setup for the price - color reproduction and detailing are decent in good light, portrait shots are ok too - though low light performance is pretty ordinary
  • Decent selfie camera too - with a decent portrait mode - again, as long as lighting conditions are good
  • Decent speaker - produces a loud sound, which is enough for a small room (the bass and mids are not so great though, expectedly)
  • Very good battery life - with a 4230mAh battery, the battery will last one and a half days with moderate use - this is easily one of the best battery life phones in the budget segment
  • Dual 4G VoLTE support
  • Overall, Realme C1 is one of the most premium-looking smartphones in this price bracket, and will give stiff competition to the likes of Xiaomi Redmi 6A, Infinix Smart 2 and others
2-minute Review [Negatives]
  • The rear panel smudges quite easily and is a fingerprint magnet, forcing you to wipe it clean multiple times during the day (you might want to use a case)
  • ColorOS UI is not the most refined Android UI - it is on the heavy side, and can be inconsistent and unintuitive at places (for instance there is the inability to swipe to remove notifications - you're forced to swipe left on a notification and tap the delete option every time you want to clear your notifications, which is quite time consuming)
  • Performance is just about ok - the combination of the middling Snapdragon 450, the limited 2GB RAM, and a heavy ColorOS UI, means that there is the occasional stuttering and lags and things don't quite move as fluidly as you would hope
  • Average dual camera setup on the rear - the bokeh pictures come out ok, but generally colours are not very accurate, and the camera often overexposes or over-saturates the colours, and autofocus is on the slow side
  • The selfie camera is pretty average too - in broad daylight you may capture workable selfies, but the quality indoors and in low-light is very low
  • No fast charging support
  • On the whole, the A3s is a decent device on its own, especially because of it's stellar battery life, but its average cameras and performance will pull it back a little - it will find it difficult to compete with it's own cousin for instance, the Realme 1, which offers much more for a similar price - and if one is keen on getting a notched display, then the Honor 9N will again offer tough competition, with a higher resolution display, at a similar price point
  • Does tend to pick up smudges easily, so you might want to use a case
  • Outdoor visibility is not that great - the screen is reflective in nature, which makes it difficult to read the text in direct sunlight
  • ColorOS is not the most refined, clean, or intuitive Android UI
  • The transition animation on the phone too is not very smooth and you can see a bit of jitter when switching from one app to another app
  • Due to limited 2GB of RAM, multi-tasking can be slightly laggy though
  • 16GB of internal storage will get limiting soon as apps accumulate cache/data over a period of time - unfortunately there is no easy way to transfer apps to SD card either (or format SD card as internal memory) - so you might be forced to keep the number of apps on the phone limited - which again means that this phone is best meant for more basic or first-time smartphone users
