2-minute Review [Positives]
  • Well built - the phone looks and feels quite premium
  • Good, accurate fingerprint sensor
  • Good, bright, large display - decent colour reproduction, good viewing angles - good videos and movie watching experience
  • On the top of Android, is Samsung's new UI - Samsung Experience - it is more refined compared to TouchWiz UX - and continues to have a number of added software features like Games Launcher, one-handed operation mode, Multi-window mode, Direct call (to make a voice call by picking up and holding the device near your ear while viewing call, message, or contact details)
  • Smart alert (to set the device to alert you if you have missed calls or new messages when you pick up the device), Gesture support, Dual Messenger (lets you use two separate accounts for the same app such as Facebook, WhatsApp and more), Secure Folder, Samsung Pay Mini, and others
  • Decent speed/performance, similar to Snapdragon 625 powered devices in this price bracket - and a notch above the Helio P20 powered Galaxy J7 Max
  • Excellent rear camera in all lighting conditions, comparable to the Moto G5 Plus, which has otherwise been the top camera phone in this price bracket
  • White balance and dynamic range remains impressive in all situations
  • Good selfie camera too, with a front facing flash for low light selfies
  • Video recording quality is decent too (but the phone doesn’t have a secondary microphone so recorded audio is not crisp)
  • Audio through the bundled or third-party earphones is decent
  • Good call quality
  • Decent battery life - lasts a day of average use (though its a notch below its cousin, the Galaxy J7 Max, because of a slightly more battery hungry processor)
  • Good Dual SIM management with Samsung's Smart Dual SIM feature (automatically forwards calls from the phone number on SIM 2, even if a user is on the phone with SIM 1’s number)
  • Modern, fresh design with an almost bezel-less ‘Infinity Display’
  • Good build quality
  • Despite housing a 5.6-inch screen, the device is compact and lightweight - you can easily use it with one hand
  • The 5.6-inch HD+ Super AMOLED ‘Infinity Display’ is one of the best in this price range - makes for a good video watching experience - the AMOLED panel makes every thing look vivid and the viewing angles are decent too
  • Samsung's Touchwiz on top of Android is one of the more refined and neat Android skins, and has some useful add-ons like Samsung Pay Mini which makes digital payments easy and a Knox-powered ‘Secure Folder’ for you store to sensitive files
  • Decent day-to-day performance, backed by a Exynos 7870 - should work fine for basic users
  • Good battery life - the 3000mAh battery which will easily last a day for heavy users while average users can squeeze around 36 hours of battery life
  • The rear is made of polycarbonate and feels nice
2-minute Review [Negatives]
  • Pretty big for single-handed use - also a bit heavy at 179 grams - might not suit people with small hands
  • Lacks a notification LED light
  • Samsung's UI is pretty nice but it continues to have duplicate apps for things like mail and browser, which is unnecessary
  • Lacks fast charging, which is present in some of its competitors - takes about 2 and half hours to charge the phone
  • The display resolution could have been better
  • The performance is alright, but is far from the best in this price bracket (that prize would go to the likes of Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro)
  • Average rear and front cameras - colours in daylight photos are washed out, and dynamic range is below average - even close-up shots are ordinary, with bland colour reproduction
  • No fast charging support
  • Misses out on basic sensors like an ambient light sensor, and a digital compass
  • On the whole, the On6 is a fairly underwhelming device, and you will find plenty of better alternatives available at the same price point
