2-minute Review [Positives]
  • Looks quite classy, and despite being a large phone, has good ergonomics
  • Slim, and light
  • 20 MP front camera is the defining feature here - it is good (though, not ground-breaking) with field of view large enough to fit a few friends in the frame, and capable of capturing a lot of details such as texture and contrast which is uncommon to find in this price bracket
  • Bright, colourful display that has decent legibility even under direct sunlight (although resolution is on the low side)
  • Good performance in day-to-day use, and multitasking, with 4GB RAM
  • Decent 13 MP rear-facing camera - takes good photos in both well-lit and low-lit conditions - autofocus is decently quick too
  • Good audio quality
  • The speakers are quite loud and clear
  • Decent battery life - the 3, 000 mAh battery is generally good enough for a whole day’s worth of mixed usage
  • On the whole, the Vivo V5 is a good purchase for someone who wants to click a lot of selfies, and consume media on their phone
  • High-end, premium metal design, and excellent build quality - befitting a much more expensive phone
  • Fast fingerprint reader
  • Impressive, bright display, with great color accuracy
  • MIUI on top of Android works great, runs fast, and has excellent theming and customization options, making it easy to find the look you want
  • Powerful Spandragon 625 chipset ensures smooth, effortless performance all throughout
  • Pretty decent camera - although it tends to produce photos a little bit on the soft side - but overall it's good, and a significant improvement over the Redmi Note 3
  • Good loudspeaker
  • Top-notch battery life - again, improved even over the already very good Redmi Note 3 - even with heavy usage, you can get close to two full days out of it
2-minute Review [Negatives]
  • The body, though it looks good, does feel very plasticky and not as well built as the Lenovo Z2 Plus or even the Samsung J7
  • The custom UI on top of Android feels a little cluttered (though with a rich feature-set)
  • While the overall performance is good, it's definitely not chart leading in this price bracket - heavy games/apps like Modern Combat 5 or Asphalt 8 are not ideal for the phone - and the phone can be a bit laggy after using the camera burst mode
  • Front camera is good overall, but tends of over-expose pictures a little bit
  • The lack of a USB Type-C port, and quick charging, is also a negative
  • Audio quality via headphones is average
  • Doesn't use the new USB-C standard
