Our Opinion

The Vivo V5s is a slightly better phone, but the Vivo Y69 is significantly better value for money. Which phone should you buy? Depends on how much your want to spend!

2-minute Review [Positives]
  • Looks quite impressive, similar to the Vivo V5 Plus, which is more expensive - the faux-metal finish at the back feels solid
  • Feels good in the hand, and allows for fairly comfortable one-handed usage
  • The fingerprint scanner is placed on the front and is easy to reach
  • Decent display - the screen is bright, text appears crisp, and sunlight legibility is decent too
  • The iOS-styled Funtouch UI is quite iOS-like and has some useful software features like App Clone, split screen, one-handed mode, Smart Click, and Smart Motion gestures
  • Good performance with apps, games and multi-tasking
  • The highlight of the phone is the 20-megapixel front-facing camera with 'Moonlight Glow' front flash - the camera fares well in all kinds of situations - selfies taken in broad daylight or with sufficient light manage to show good amount of detail and proper colours - ones taken in low light have noise at the corners but are still better than what we get from other phones in the same price segment
  • The 13-megapixel rear camera is decent too - quick with focusing, and manages to capture some good detailed shots - the video recording at 1080p is good too
  • Good loudspeaker
  • Good audio quality via headphones
  • Good call quality
  • Good battery life - the phone manages to last over a day with heavy usage - with light usage could make it last a day and a half before you need to recharge
  • Good charging speed too - takes slightly less than 90 minutes to charge fully from zero
  • Good build quality
  • Sleek metal unibody design with a premium look and feel
  • The fingerprint scanner integrated in the home button works great
  • The display is bright, and has vivid colours and slim bezels
  • Decent UI overlay over Android - includes features like split screen, one hand mode, long screenshot, app clone - there are a few bloatware apps preloaded but all of them can be uninstalled if required
  • Day to day performance is fairly smooth
  • Very good front camera - comes with a number of features: group selfie mode, face beauty mode, portrait bokeh and live photo (records a few seconds of video along with the photo) - there is also an LED in front that can be used as a flash or fill light for video - overall image quality from the front camera is great — in daylight as well as indoors
  • Good battery life - comfortably lasts the full day
2-minute Review [Negatives]
  • A full-HD resolution would have been nicer for the display
  • The Funtouch UI packs in plenty of bloatware, some of which cant be uninstalled
  • Screen resolution could have been better
  • The performance is decent in regular use and simple games, but there are certainly phones with better chipsets in this price bracket
  • Rear camera performance is decent in daylight with sharp details and rich colours, but indoors the images don’t have much detail and low light images have lots of noise
  • Video recording from the rear camera is limited to 1080p resolution only (some other phones in this price bracket now offer 4K resolution)
  • Overall, the Vivo Y69 is a phone meant only for the selfie loving crowd (otherwise there are many overall better phones), and even within that segment it has tough competition from the likes of Gionee A1
