2-minute Review [Positives]
  • Almost stock Android interface keeps things nice and simple
  • Most of the customisation is useful and in the form of gesture support both for the screen as well as the fingerprint sensor
  • Compact, smart looking, premium design with a metal build - very similar to the Redmi Note 3, but more easy to handle (because of the smaller size)
  • Excellent ergonomics, with the curves on the back making the phone very comfortable to hold
  • Light-weight with an excellent weight distribution, despite the large battery it holds inside
  • Nice, vibrant, and bright display, with excellent touch-responsiveness, and good viewing angles
  • MIUI is a one of the better Android skins around
  • Good speed/performance (though multi-tasking performance is a notch below the Redmi 3s Prime because of lesser RAM)
  • Decent camera
  • Excellent battery life - easily lasts a day and a half in regular use
2-minute Review [Negatives]
  • Generic looks
  • Because of the big bezels and frame, the phone ends up being pretty large for a 5-inch screen device
  • Average display - there is a high color shift just a few degrees off straight on - the screen looks passable when you look at it head on but moving even slightly over to the side and the change in color gets very off-putting
  • Predictably average performance given the budget specs - games take a bit longer to start up and this is one area where the lower end specifications are easy to make out
  • Predictably average camera - as is true of most phones in the budget to mid segment, you can expect passable photos only if the lighting is really good - dynamic range is limited too - indoor photo quality is pretty ordinary
  • Battery life is a bit of a hit or miss - many of the competing phones offer better battery life
  • On the whole, the phone significantly falls behind the likes of the Redmi 3S which offers a much larger battery and better display for the same price
  • Camera is decent, and almost at par with the more expensive Redmi Note 3, but still could have been better, especially with low light performance
  • Loudspeaker volume could have been better
