2-minute Review [Positives]
  • Very good build quality
  • The Micromax Canvas Infinity is all about the screen - with its wide aspect ratio (18:9) 5.7-inch screen, the Micromax Canvas Infinity boasts striking good looks at the front - arguably the best looking smartphone you can buy in this price bracket - in fact until recently such "infinity" displays were only found on Samsung and LG flagships - so its commendable seeing that replicated in this price bracket
  • As a result of the reduced non-screen space, the Micromax Canvas Infinity manages to squeeze in a 5.7-inch screen while being slightly smaller than a typical 5.5-inch screen phone such as the OnePlus 5 - the phone doesn’t feel too big, and will appeal to buyers on a low budget looking for a phone with a bigger screen that doesn’t feel quite as big
  • Accurate, quick fingerprint sensor at the back of the phone
  • Good front camera - takes decent pictures, even in lighting conditions that are less than ideal - there are a couple of additional modes as well, including real-time bokeh with the front camera, and super pixel technology - on the whole, pictures are sharp and well composed
  • Decent (though not great) rear camera
  • Other key advantages of the Micromax Canvas Infinity include a removable battery and separate slots for both SIM cards and a microSD card, which means that you can have two SIMs and expandable storage on the phone as well
  • Decent battery life - lasts the day with moderate use
  • Good looks with a solid build, plastic unibody design, and a compact feel
  • The gentle curves at the edges are a nice upgrade over the Redmi 4A which was more square-ish
  • Additionally, the company has taken user feedback and gone with a non-hybrid SIM tray design - there are separate slots for a microSD card and both SIMs, therefore not forcing users to have to forego one or the other
  • Good display for the price
  • MIUI continues to be one of the more well designed Android UIs - it's clean, efficient and has a number of useful add-on apps like Mi Drop, Mi Security (lets you set passcodes on individual apps, set up dual apps or a second space on the device, block SMS senders and more), and Mi Remote
  • Decent performance in daily use
  • Acceptable cameras given the price point - take good shots in good light, and single-tone LED flash at the back will help you get a little more visibility in low light conditions
  • Decent battery life - with the low power usage of the Snapdragon 425 and the frugal HD screen, you can easily get a full day’s use out of the smartphone before needing to charge
  • Overall it's a decent upgrade over the Redmi 4A, and the small changes will help in keeping the phone current - and offer very good value to users looking for a nice entry-level smartphone
2-minute Review [Negatives]
  • The screen resolution is on the low side, and this lack of sharpness shows - the low detail will be noticeable, particularly when gaming or watching videos, which would ordinarily be the key benefits of the large, wide screen of the Micromax Canvas Infinity
  • The display's viewing angles, and color reproduction are pretty ordinary too
  • Micromax's custom UI is not the most refined Android UI and is buggy/half-baked in many places
  • The phone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 SoC, a basic chipset that is more meant for basic entry-level smartphones, and the lack of capability in performance does show - you will tend to experience stutter and lag, when you push it with anything other than basic apps
  • On the whole, if looks are a primary concern, then the Canvas Infinity is a good choice, else in terms of performance, there are better choices around from the likes of Xiaomi
  • Performance is only good for basic use - you will of course need better specs (and a more expensive phone) if you intend to use heavy apps, or play a lot of games
  • Camera quality is basic too - again as would be expected at this price point
  • No fast charging support
