2-minute Review [Positives]
  • Compact dimensions, solid aluminium build
  • The fingerprint sensor at the back is quick to unlock
  • Modern 5.6-inch 18.5:9 tall aspect display
  • Samsung's Experience UI is one of the nicer Android UIs around - and adds stuff like a more versatile multi-tasking implementation, 'Secure folder' to keep files, memos, and apps away from prying eyes, and 'Game launcher', to core Android functionalities
  • Good rear camera in daylight conditions - detail is good, and the overall processing is very natural
  • Very good selfie camera - captures a lot of detail, faces are in sharp focus at arm's length distance, and are on point - there's also a portrait mode for selfies that works well
  • Good audio quality via headphones and loudspeaker (Loud speaker is pretty loud too)
  • Good battery life - will last the day with moderate to heavy use
  • Modern, fresh design with an almost bezel-less ‘Infinity Display’
  • Very good build quality
  • The rear is made of polycarbonate and feels premium
  • Despite housing a 5.6-inch screen, the device is compact and lightweight - you can easily use it with one hand
  • The 5.6-inch HD+ Super AMOLED ‘Infinity Display’ is one of the best in this price range - makes for a good video watching experience - the AMOLED panel makes every thing look vivid and the viewing angles are decent too
  • Samsung's Touchwiz on top of Android is one of the more refined and neat Android skins, and has some useful add-ons like Samsung Pay Mini which makes digital payments easy and a Knox-powered ‘Secure Folder’ for you store to sensitive files
  • Smooth day-to-day performance, backed by a Exynos 7870 - should work well for most users, other than heavy gamers
  • Decent rear and front cameras, especially in daylight
  • Good battery life - the 3000mAh battery which will easily last a day for heavy users while average users can squeeze around 36 hours of battery life
  • Decent charging speed too - takes a little more than 90 minutes to fully-charge the device
2-minute Review [Negatives]
  • Only an Okay-ish AMOLED display in terms of quality - not quite up to the high standard Samsung usually sets with its screens - the resolution could have been higher too
  • No notification LED, or always-on-display - so you end up having no way of knowing if you have any new notifications without waking up the phone
  • Underpowered chipset, day-to-day performance is ok, but thats about it - Samsung misses the bus here by including a weak chipset - most of the competition (especially the Snapdragon 600 series phones) is much better in terms of performance
  • Rear camera performance in low light is pretty average
  • Uses the old microUSB port, instead of the modern USB-C standard
  • No fast charging support
  • The display resolution could have been better
  • The performance is pretty decent, but is not the best in this price bracket (that prize would go to the likes of Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro)
