PhoneCurry Editor's Note

summarizing opinion across 4 expert reviews

What We Liked

  • Decent build quality
  • The 5.5-inch screen on the phone is decent considering the price, and manages good colour reproduction (though viewing angles and sunlight legibility are just about average)
  • VR works, and you can play 360 degree videos on youtube or watch pre-loaded videos (although it is pretty limited, and certainly not flawless)
  • 4G support
  • Decent battery life - using the phone as a daily driver will take you through a normal work-day

What We Didn't

  • Pedestrian design
  • The glossy back on the phone feels odd and somewhat cheap - and it also effects the grip
  • Touch response is sometimes wonky
  • Physical volume buttons and power key are a little shallow
  • The UI is based on stock Android (which is a good because it keeps things simple) but still gets irritating because of the integrated advert-ridden ecosystem - there are almost a dozen pre-loaded apps, most of which can't be uninstalled - Intex’s own app aggregator will also keep popping up on the device’s notification panel and can be dismissed only after you open it and install a few apps - if you don’t want to, you just have to live with it - the phone seems like it is made primarily to sell apps, rather than providing a good experience
  • Sub-par performance - lags in simple navigation tasks, like opening recent tabs - this is partly due to the fact that it has only 1GB of RAM and partly because the UI lacks optimisation - while the phone does manage to run apps such Facebook, Gmail and Chrome, the experience here is sluggish
  • Limited internal storage (8GB), which means you will start to run into issues if you try to install a large number of apps
  • Poor camera - images taken during daytime are dull, lack details and have softer focus - and image quality further deteriorates as you move indoors and under low light becoming almost unusable
  • Battery takes a long time to charge (about 4-5 hours)
  • The UI sometimes shows wrong/inconsistent info about the remaining battery percentage
