2-minute Review [Positives]
  • Beautiful, premium Apple design, clad in a single piece of milled glass with a matte finish that covers everything except the Apple logo and the phones' three cameras - it's a little more premium looking and sophisticated than the iPhone 11
  • Packs a more premium stainless steel frame (instead of the aluminium frame on the iPhone 11)
  • The matte finish also means it's more fingerprint resistant compared to the iPhone 11's glossy back
  • Ergonomically, the iPhone 11 Pro is the best of the lot with the most compact, easy to handle size
  • IP68 water resistance, and more durable glass, compared to last year's iPhones - in fact Apple claims the glass used on iPhone Pros is the "most durable glass used on a smartphone"
  • Face ID is now slightly faster, and supports more face angles too - which means you can lean over your iPhone resting on your coffee table, and it will unlock
  • Beautiful, high resolution OLED display - one of the best on any smartphone - and even brighter than the excellent OLED displays on last year's iPhone XS and XS Max
  • The iOS dark mode which is finally here looks great on the iPhone 11 Pros' OLED screen
  • Apple knows how to do software well, and iOS continues to be an intuitive, and smooth experience - plus of course, you get regular, and timely updates
  • Break-neck speeds with the new A13 processor - it's a bit faster in single tasking, and a bigger leap in multitasking, compared to the A12, which already was the fastest mobile chipset around - in simple terms this is the fastest smartphone out there now (along with the iPhone 11 Pro models), and of course runs butter smooth
  • iPhones have always been among the top camera phones each year (along with the Pixels, Galaxy Notes, Galaxy S, and Huawei flagships in recent times), and the iPhone 11 Pro continues that traditions bringing in some serious camera improvements to bring at par with the best of the pack
  • The 2 key camera upgrades are - a new ultrawide-angle camera and a Night Mode for low-light photography - and all 3 work quite well
  • The ultrawide-angle camera can make for dramatic shots - you get an expanded-view viewfinder that now previews what's outside the shot, which can help you know when to use the ultrawide lens
  • Apple's version of Night mode too is excellent - it works automatically, taking an extra 1 to 3 seconds to capture more light and assemble a picture that ends up almost surreal and richly colored (you will be wowed) - it's as good as the excellent Night modes on the Pixel 3 and the Huawei P30 Pro - the 2 phones that have so far been champions of night photography
  • The telephoto camera with 2x zoom has a wider aperture this time, which means it's better than last year's iPhones at providing bright photos when it's dark out
  • Later this year, the iPhone 11 Pro will also offer a new Deep Fusion feature to perform pixel-by-pixel photo processing to deliver even more detail and better textures along with less noise - again, you won't need to activate a separate mode
  • it will just kick in when you're indoors and there's a decent amount of light
  • iPhone video cameras have always been fantastic, arguably the best on any smartphone - in the iPhone 11 Pro they have even better stabilization for smoother video, and look better in darker spaces (though the video camera doesn't use Night mode)
  • Front camera is very good too, and is wider-angled this time - it can digitally zoom in or out to accommodate a wider view that includes more people and background
  • The front camera also get a new "slow motion selfie video" feature ("Slofies") - it's a fun feature, to add some drama to selfies
  • Overall, the excellent cameras on the iPhone 11 Pro bring it in the top bracket, on par with the other 2 top camera phones - the Pixel 3 and the Huawei P30 Pro
  • Excellent audio capabilities - Apple has introduced a feature called spatial audio to the iPhone 11 models, which creates a virtual sound stage to make you believe that the sound is coming out of the screen rather than just at the end of the phone and it's actually quite impressive in action - plus, you also get Dolby Atmos support - again, this is one of the best audio setups on any smartphone
  • The new U1 positioning chip inside all of Apple's new iPhones will allow iPhone 11/Pro/Max owners to more easily AirDrop files to each other by pointing their phones at specific people - and many other interesting location based applications could follow soon
  • Excellent battery life - improved very significantly over the iPhone XS - by as much as 30% - with moderate usage, you should comfortably get 1.5+ days of use - overall battery life is a little more than the iPhone 11, and a little less than the iPhone 11 Pro Max
  • Fast charging support, and the 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max also are the first iPhones to ship with a bundled fast charger (finally!) - you will get very good charging speeds - 28 percent in 15 minutes, 47 percent in 30 minutes, 65 percent in 45 minutes, 81 percent in 60 minutes
  • This year's iPhone 11 Pro is a well executed refinement over the iPhone XS - it's more durable, faster, has better cameras, better battery life - there might not be any stand-out wow upgrade here but it's a very meaningful upgrade in all key areas
  • It's the premium iPhone to get this year, if you are looking for a combination of premium and compact
  • Elegant, 'new' charming design, that resonates with the iPhone 4 and 5 models - it has flat sturdier steel sides and a flat-screen, the back has a matte finish, just like the last year's model
  • At the front, Apple is using the new sapphire crystal shield to provide better drop protection than previous iPhones
  • Ergonomically, the flat edges, the seams and the corners are bevelled just enough to make it comfortable to hold (though a bit heavier than the 12, because of the steel sides)
  • The back of the phone features Apple’s new MagSafe magnetic wireless charging and mount system - it let's accessories to attach at the back of the phone magnetically, Apple has some of its own accessories like a wireless charger, a wallet and many cases that attach to the back - Apple is hoping a MagSafe ecosystem will develop as third parties find more use for this execution
  • IP68 water and dust resistance - the iPhone 12 series can take a dunk of up to 6 meters, compared to 2 meters on similarly rated phones
  • Face ID is plenty fast and accurate (though, it could be a pain to use while wearing a mask)
  • The iPhone 12 features a slightly larger OLED, 6.1-inch, Full HD+ Super Retina XDR display that looks bright and vibrant, it has blacker blacks - the bezels are a bit thinner all around too, which certainly makes for better viewing experience when watching Netflix or scrolling through social media
  • As always iOS 14 continues to be a clean, intuitive, and smooth experience - additionally, you will get regular updates for years to come, something beyond any Android manufacturer could provide
  • Apple has added few customisation options with the new iOS 14 - you can now use custom icon packs and add widgets to your home screen
  • Incredibly rapid performance from the new A14 Bionic - Apple remains the undisputed king when it comes to mobile CPU performance - iPhone 12 series is the fastest phones available in the market - you can throw anything, be it heavy games, AR, or numerous app, it handles everything with ease
  • iPhone 12 Pro adds a lot of improvements and software features over the already excellent cameras on the iPhone 11 Pro - the primary cameras now has wider ƒ/1.6 aperture to allow in slightly more light, night mode comes to all of the cameras on the iPhone 12 Pro, even a night portrait mode and LiDAR for better focusing in low-light
  • The primary camera's image quality is pretty spectacular - it produces some of the best looking images, with plenty of bright colours and rich detail
  • The ultra-wide camera remains the same as the last year's iPhone 11 - it adds some software improvement and the images look pretty dramatic as the iPhone 12 trades detail for space - the night mode on the ultra-wide also works well
  • The telephoto lens on the 12 Pro is nice to have, it can take up to 2x optical zoom shots and with added night mode, it is much more useful in low-light situations
  • Low-light photography is excellent with the wider aperture, you will get clearer, brighter shots, a nice improvement in image quality and sharpness in dim lighting conditions
  • Night mode is impressive, the iPhone 12 Pro needs to drop into night mode less often, but when it does, you get bright, sharp images that look amazing - they still feel like they were taken at night and they aren't over-blown
  • The 12 Pro also has a new LIDAR sensor on the back - in low-light situations, it enables the camera to focus much more quickly, and also take night mode portrait shots
  • Video quality iPhones have always been the best in class, the iPhone 12 Pro continues that tradition and even adds Dolby Vision, a first for any mobile camera - the Dolby Vision adds features for Pro filmmakers to use that no other phone provides
  • Very good selfies come out of the front camera on the iPhone 12 Pro - the wider view can accommodate more people in selfies - night mode selfies portrait is a great new feature and produces impressive results
  • Overall, the cameras remain excellent and on the top of the chart, right there with the Note 20 Ultra and Pixels of the world
  • Excellent stereo speaker setup - the Dolby Atmos support is still present, with the Apple-exclusive spatial audio feature
  • Decent battery life - it can get through a full day without much issue (though there's a small regression from the iPhone 11 Pro, it’s easier to kill this thing with a full day of heavy use than the iPhone 11 Pro)
  • If the new LiDAR sensor and the added telephoto cameras is a must have for you, then it makes sense to buy the 12 Pro over the 12, and you like the feel of stainless steel in your hand, rest they are identical
2-minute Review [Negatives]
  • The large display notch is still there
  • Siri has generally fallen behind Google Assistant now, in terms of usefulness and intelligence, so iPhones are not the best 'smart assistant' experiences now
  • The ultrawide-angle camera doesn’t have Night Mode or OIS
  • Having said that, it remains ridiculously expensive - so it's only worth splurging on if you have a lot to splurge
  • And, if you are not wedded to the iOS ecosystem, there are a number of Android flagships from Samsung, OnePlus, Google, Huawei, Asus, and Xiaomi - that are more than worthy competitors
  • If you are wedded to the iOS ecosystem, the significantly cheaper iPhone 11, that is almost as good in all key areas, will provide you much better bang for your buck
  • The notch is still present and is significantly larger than any other competing flagship phones
  • There's no high refresh rate to be found on the iPhone 12 Pro, you're stuck with that 60Hz refresh rate instead - it has become the standard for almost every Android flagship phone out there right now
  • Siri still lags as a virtual assistant - it would be great if Apple would put much more effort into making Siri a little more competitive with the Google Assistant
  • Apple has added 5G support to all iPhone 12 models, however, they leave out the support for faster 5G mmWave in Indian models - there's also no infrastructure for 5G availability in India and there might not be for years to come - 5G is good to have as an option that makes the iPhones future proof, but not a game-changing feature
  • The iPhone supports improved 20W fast charging, but Apple isn't providing a charging adapter with the new iPhones at all - so, if you don't have an adapter lying around or you want to use that fast charging, you will have to buy that separately
  • The iPhone 12 Pro is much more expensive than the launch price of last year's iPhone 11 Pro - there are competitive phones phone Samsung, OnePlus, and Xiaomi that provide better value for money, if you aren't sacredly attached to the iOS ecosystem
