2-minute Review [Positives] N/A
  • Looks iconic and stunning - not only is this the most premium smartphone design ever by Samsung but is also one of the most cohesive implementations around - it feels like a solid, reassuring block of glass and metal with ample heft, the Mystic Bronze colour exudes class
  • The front looks striking as well with a center punch hole front camera and nearly bezel-less display
  • Incredible build quality - the Corning Gorilla Glass Victus at the front and back is the most advanced scratch protection component available on any phone currently
  • The S-Pen can be inserted facing up or down, and won't damage the phone if unlike in other models
  • IP68 water and dust resistant
  • Amazingly gorgeous 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED display with curved edges - the colours, dynamic range, max brightness, and contrast are best in class
  • The 120Hz refresh rate is impressively smooth which gives the content on the screen amazing fluidity (though, you still can't max out the refresh rate and resolution at the same time)
  • Running the Galaxy Note Ultra is Samsung's OneUI 2.5 on Android 10 - which, as far as Android UIs go, is one of the most refined, well-thought-out experiences
  • The Note 20 Ultra houses the Samsung's own Exynos 990, which is one of the best CPUs available in the market, just a shade behind the Qualcomm's Snapdragon 865+ - apps open quickly, scavenging through files is swift and multi-tasking is a breeze, it is a top-tier experience
  • The Note 20 Ultra boasts an impressive quad-camera system at the back - the standard lens boasts a 108MP sensor, joined by an ultra-wide-angle 12MP camera, an optical periscope telephoto 12MP camera, and a time-of-flight camera to help process depth information
  • The images from the main module are amazing, with ample detail, dynamic range, and colour accuracy - almost universally appealing, with a bit of warmth and saturation, added to the not so enthusiastic real world's rendition - you can opt to shoot the full 108MP at any time, the full resolution shots are indeed impressive in their detail and the noise levels are class-leading
  • The ultra-wide cam offers similar colour performance to the main module - it also does admirably at fitting the inevitably wide scenes into a single shot, details are decent too
  • The periscope telephoto is the star of the show - 5x zoom setting the Note20 Ultra takes sharp pictures, sharper than the S20 Ultra's at 5x - surprisingly the 12MP images are almost always sharper at any zoom level than the S20 Ultra's 48MP sensor
  • The Note20 Ultra builds on the S20 Ultra's already great low-light performance and delivers even better image quality at night with improvements across the board - dynamic range is wider, colour saturation is even better preserved, and there's finer detail - Fire up Night mode and it will deliver improved development in the dark areas and better-contained highlights with less haloing around light sources - the usual stuff, done right
  • The Note20 Ultra's portrait mode (Live Focus) delivers spectacular subject isolation even with complex subjects, easily better than the S20 Ultra, possibly the best in the market - bokeh rendition is also very nice
  • The front camera is truly a treat as pictures taken any time is simply amazing - Live focus mode on the selfie cam is very good (though, isn't quite as capable as it is on the main one)
  • Apart from being able to record videos up to 8K, the Super Steady toggle and the Slo-mo features are fun to play with
  • Overall, these are the best of best cameras available in the market competing with the likes of Pixels and iPhones in their own way
  • One of the biggest reasons to consider dropping so much cash on a phone has to be the S-Pen experience - the main upgrade is the new reduced input latency of just 9ms, sketching, annotating, signing documents, or taking down notes feels more responsive - apart from the usual slew of features new additions include gestures to navigate through the interface (back, home, recents, screenshot) without having to be near the phone
  • Decent battery life from the 4500mAh cell - with the regular use the Note20 Ultra can last a day, but you'd need to refuel it by the evening
  • The Note20 Ultra is the most complete Galaxy and very likely the most complete smartphone you can buy right now - if your latest bank statement signs off on it, so do we
2-minute Review [Negatives] N/A
  • The 208g weight is mostly on the higher side and one-handed usage isn't easy at all
  • The camera bump feels huge, it is smaller than the S20 Ultra but the slimmer frame makes it stand out more on the Note 20 Ultra
  • The Note 20 Ultra takes the crown for the worst palm-rejection on any curved display due to its huge size
  • For its price, the Exynos 990 isn't the best of the best, the Qualcomm's flagship chips are a step ahead and you see the performance lag when running intensive games or apps
  • The 25W Fast charging is a downgrade from last year's Note 10 Plus' 45W fast charging - it takes the bundled 25W charger about 80 minutes to fill up the phone completely, a lot behind the competition as other players are offering up to 65W fast charging which is much faster
  • The Galaxy Note20 Ultra is not twice as good a smartphone as the competition that you can find for half its price - there are phones like OnePlus 8 Pro that gives you 90% of the experience at 60% of the price
