2-minute Review [Positives]
  • The design follows on from the previous generation of iPhones - with the same excellent build quality, Apple's famed attention to detail, and beautiful aesthetics - in fact, the phone looks almost identical to the previous generation of the iPhone
  • Splash, and water resistant
  • Excellent, large display, improving a bit over the previous iPhones with a "wide color gamut" screen and enhanced color accuracy
  • iOS 10 is excellent and now makes more sense out of 3D Touch, enhances the lock screen and allows third-party integration with Siri and Maps
  • Of course, iOS also has an industry-leading software update program - you are guaranteed to get all iOS updates in the next few years as soon as they are out
  • Phenomenal, top-tier performance backed by the new A10 chip, beating Samsung's flagship phones for instance by a significant margin in benchmark tests (although in practical terms, you might only notice the speed on some intensive games and the video and photo-editing apps)
  • Also adds extra RAM on top of the iPhone 7 setup (3GB vs 2GB) making it more future-proof
  • Excellent front and rear cameras - this is Apple's best camera phone to date, and pushes the envelope to offer great results
  • The camera is a also a step up over the iPhone 7, with a dual rear camera setup delivering a true 2x optical zoom, and with an exceptional bokeh mode to come via a forthcoming upgrade
  • The front-facing FaceTime camera has been bumped to 7 megapixels now, and it looked great for selfies or videos
  • Enhanced (louder, and now stereo) speakers
  • Good audio quality
  • Very good call quality
  • Very good battery life - lasts an hour longer than the previous iPhones 6S Plus
  • Much improved haptics with Apple's updated "Taptic Engine"
  • Immaculate fit and finish, and a pleasing, premium design - very similar to the OnePlus 6T
  • Pretty good ergonomics (similar to the OnePlus 6T, and better than the heavier/larger OnePlus 7 Pro)
  • The in-display fingerprint reader is very good - and even a bit faster than the already good one on the OnePlus 6T
  • Big, beautiful 'dewdrop' notch AMOLED display, again quite similar to the OnePlus 6T
  • OnePlus’ Reading mode is still there and is as useful as ever - it turns the screen to a reading-optimized monochrome, and it can be assigned to activate when you’re in certain apps
  • OxygenOS continues to be one of the most thoughtfully-designed, clean (stock-like) UIs for Android
  • 2 new features that make it to the latest version of OxygenOS are screen recording, and Zen Mode (for exercising more control over your screen time)
  • With the super fast flagship Snapdragon 855, some ultra fast storage speed (UFS3), the OnePlus 7 is a speed beast, and matches other top-end flagships
  • Good dual rear camera setup - there a primary 48MP camera and a secondary 5MP depth sensor
  • Overall image quality is good - it takes great outdoor shots, with vibrant colours and good exposure - and is a decent improvement over the OnePlus 6T (though not as good, or as versatile as the camera setup on the OnePlus 7)
  • It also has the new Nightscape mode, which lets you capture reasonably bright and sharp images even in very low light situations
  • Good 16MP front camera too
  • Excellent stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos
  • Good battery life with a 3700mAH battery - the OnePlus 7 will make it through a day of intensive use without a problem - and will give you battery life similar to the OnePlus 6T (and more than the OnePlus 7 Pro, which lasts less long because of the more battery intensive 90Hz screen)
  • OnePlus's Dash Charging continues to be one of the better fast charging technologies around - it goes from 10 to 100 percent in just 1 hour and 15 minutes - though it's a step below the Warp Charge tech on the OnePlus 7 Pro
  • Overall, OnePlus 7 retains the spot of the all-rounder, reliable, no-frills, budget flagship from OnePlus (while the OnePlus 7 Pro takes the more 'premium' flagship approach), giving you a high-end flagship experience for relatively less - and it makes for a decent update to the OnePlus 6T in the performance and camera departments
2-minute Review [Negatives]
  • No big changes in design from the last two iPhone versions
  • The design is starting to show its age, as competing phones squeeze a 5.5-inch screen into smaller, sexier bodies
  • The Jet black version is a fingerprint and scratch magnet (so, use it with a case)
  • The new click-free home button takes getting used to because there's no mechanical click when you press the home button
  • The missing standard (3.5mm) headphone jack on the phone means that you won't be able to easily use your regular earphones with the iPhone now (though compatible EarPods come included in the case, as well as a Lightning-to-regular-headphone adapter dongle)
  • Lacks fast charging support (which is now present on most of the Android flagships)
  • On the whole, while there are significant changes from last year's iPhone 6S Plus, but they may not be thrilling enough to warrant an upgrade
  • Still not fully waterproof (there is some water resistance but it's not IP certified)
  • Like all glossy finish phones (which is an increasing majority of phones these days), the glass back of the phone is a fingerprint magnet
  • It's not quite a match for the new budget-flagship camera champion, the Pixel 3a, however, which is ahead by a significant margin
  • No standard headphone jack - you will need to use either USB-C or wireless headphones (none of which is included in the retail package)
  • No wireless charging support
  • That said though, the budget flagship segment is much more competitive now (unlike when the 6T launched), so you will have some pretty good alternatives as well, not the least of which is the Pixel 3a/XL, which while not as beautiful looking, or as fast, will provide with a much better camera experience, a more compact design, and a headphone jack
