2-minute Review [Positives]
  • Striking, sleek design, with rounded edges and a gradient color back - one of the better looking budget phones around
  • Offers a good grip, and is relatively light-weight for the size
  • Both fingerprint reader and face unlock work accurately and quickly
  • Nice display - packs a 6.52-inch HD+ (720x1600 pixels) screen with a 20:9 aspect ratio and 90.3 percent screen-to-body ratio - color output is decent, and sunlight legibility is good too - overall, this is one of the better displays you will see in this price segment
  • XOS UI is a decent Android skin, is smooth to use, and has a few useful features - like the dedicated smart panel (to the left of the home-screen for widgets and shortcuts), and Intelligence voice broadcast (can read out a lot of things for the user, like cricket scores, news and SMSes, as well as personal texts from various messaging apps)
  • Decent performance for day-to-day use with a Helio P22 SoC - similar to Snapdragon 625 (though gaming performance is pretty ordinary, as expected)
  • Decent triple camera setup for the price (13MP primary + 2MP depth + Low Light Camera)
  • The primary camera gives reasonably good shots in daylight - sharpness and details are decent - though consistency is an issue
  • Selfies come out nicely too (but the beauty mode can make the pics look unreal, so it's best turned off)
  • Excellent battery life with a 5000mAh battery - you should get a comfortable 2 days of use
  • Decent charging speed (it's not 'fast charge' though)
  • The Hot 8 is an another reliable budget choice from Infinix offering a good specs/price ratio, allowing it to stand up to tough competition from Xiaomi and Realme - as long as performance is not a major concern, and you are not into gaming, it's worth considering
  • Pleasing and well-articulate design - the subtle gloss at the rear with gem cut texture gives a nice feel to the phone
  • The fingerprint works well
  • Large 6.6-inch, 20:9 aspect ratio, immersive display - ideally suited for content consumption
  • Infinix's custom XOS UI is relatively easy to get around and close to stock Android (though it does pack a ton of bloatware)
  • Decent performance with the MediaTek Helio P22 SoC under the hood (similar to Snapdragon 625) - day-to-day performance is smooth, and so is casual gaming (though heavier titles struggle to run at their ideal graphics settings)
  • Selfie camera puts out decent results in good lighting situations
  • Excellent battery life with the massive 5000 mAh battery that can last for 2 days on moderate usage
  • The Infinix Hot 9 is strictly for basic use - if you are going to do basic stuff like WhatsApp, calls, messages etc on a really good display, the Hot 9 could be the device for you
2-minute Review [Negatives]
  • With a large 6.5-inch screen, the phone is a little too big for one-hand usage
  • It does pack a lot of bloatware, though (and spammy notifications)
  • In terms of overall performance though, the likes of Redmi 7 and Realme 3i fare better (even the lesser RAM variants) because of their faster processors
  • Big and spacious - not the most comfortable phone for one-hand operations - also it is slippery in hands
  • Average quad camera setup - which includes a 13MP primary sensor, 2MP macro sensor, 2MP depth sensor along with a 0.3MP Low-light sensor
  • The primary camera produces decent results during daylight, but sometimes the pictures are so bright that it completely blows up highlights - and there's noise even in the daylight shots
  • The macro sensor performs poorly - it produces blurry photos in any lighting condition
  • The images clicked during the night time are unnaturally bright and distorted
  • No fast charging support
  • There is no USB-C port, you will have to make do with the age-old microUSB port
  • The Infinix Hot 9 despite having a DTS surround sound feature on paper, doesn’t provide an impressive sound output - sound gets squeaky when you increase the volume
  • However, it would be advised to skip the Infinix Hot 9 for a Redmi or Realme phone which would be much better in almost every aspect, around the same price point
