2-minute Review [Positives] |
- Striking, sleek design, with rounded edges and a gradient color back - one of the better looking budget phones around
- Offers a good grip, and is relatively light-weight for the size
- Both fingerprint reader and face unlock work accurately and quickly
- Nice display - packs a 6.52-inch HD+ (720x1600 pixels) screen with a 20:9 aspect ratio and 90.3 percent screen-to-body ratio - color output is decent, and sunlight legibility is good too - overall, this is one of the better displays you will see in this price segment
- XOS UI is a decent Android skin, is smooth to use, and has a few useful features - like the dedicated smart panel (to the left of the home-screen for widgets and shortcuts), and Intelligence voice broadcast (can read out a lot of things for the user, like cricket scores, news and SMSes, as well as personal texts from various messaging apps)
- Decent performance for day-to-day use with a Helio P22 SoC - similar to Snapdragon 625 (though gaming performance is pretty ordinary, as expected)
- Decent triple camera setup for the price (13MP primary + 2MP depth + Low Light Camera)
- The primary camera gives reasonably good shots in daylight - sharpness and details are decent - though consistency is an issue
- Selfies come out nicely too (but the beauty mode can make the pics look unreal, so it's best turned off)
- Excellent battery life with a 5000mAh battery - you should get a comfortable 2 days of use
- Decent charging speed (it's not 'fast charge' though)
- The Hot 8 is an another reliable budget choice from Infinix offering a good specs/price ratio, allowing it to stand up to tough competition from Xiaomi and Realme - as long as performance is not a major concern, and you are not into gaming, it's worth considering
|
- Good looks
- With a glossy plastic back panel coated with 10 layers of nano chrome particles and a modern, tall display, Infinix Note 5 feels premium and good to hold, and is easily one of the best built phone in this price bracket
- The phone does not have antenna lines at the back, and with the subtle Android One and Infinix branding, it adds a neat look to the rear panel
- Bright display, with vivid colours, in the new 18:9 aspect ratio - it renders good colour reproduction with wide viewing angles
- The USP of the phone of course is that it's part of the Android One series, which means you get simple stock Android, and a guarantee of updates for 2 years
- Good day-to-day performance, with a mid-tier MediaTek Helio P23 (similar to Snapdragon 625) - everything, except very heavy games, will run smoothly
- Decent set of rear and front cameras, especially in daylight
- Both cameras also have a software based portrait/bokeh mode, that works reasonably well, as well as scene-recognition AI features
- Extra long battery life, with a solid 4500mah battery - with moderate use, the phone will comfortably lasts for one and a half days
- Fast charging support
- On the whole, the Infinix Note 5 is a worthy option in the budget segment, and can compete well against the likes of the Redmi Note 5 (which is slightly ahead on software customisability and overall build quality, but slightly behind on software simplicity and battery backup)
|
2-minute Review [Negatives] |
- With a large 6.5-inch screen, the phone is a little too big for one-hand usage
- It does pack a lot of bloatware, though (and spammy notifications)
- In terms of overall performance though, the likes of Redmi 7 and Realme 3i fare better (even the lesser RAM variants) because of their faster processors
|
- The shiny back panel easily attracts fingerprints, smudges and scratches
- The fingerprint sensor on the phone is a bit on the slow side
- The display on the phone, while pretty nice, is also reflective and therefore outdoor visibility is average
- While the cameras are pretty decent in well-lit conditions, they are average in low light
