2-minute Review [Positives]
  • Simple, no-frill design
  • Easy to hold and operate with one hand - and has a good grip
  • Has 'Face Unlock' that works quite well
  • Modern tall 5.45-inch HD+ screen, with a 18:9 aspect ratio - the glass on top of the display is curved from edges, which makes it easy to use and operate
  • Infinix’s proprietary XOS UI over Android is decent as far as Android UIs go - it looks fairly neat, and carries some intuitive features - it’s customizable to quite an extent, including the app drawer layout, grid size, app icon theme, and also the text color - there’s also a good number of customizable gestures included (there is also some bloatware, but that can thankfully be uninstalled)
  • Decent rear and front cameras given the price point - take decent portrait shots in good light - but you shouldn't expect much more than that
  • Good battery life - powered by a 3050 mAh battery, the phone keeps going for more than a day
  • Overall, the Infinix Smart 2 is a feature-rich entry-level smartphone worthy of its price - it can compete well with the top phone in this segment, the Xiaomi Redmi 5A, and even holds an edge on it in terms of a modern 18:9 aspect ratio screen (although it falls behind it in terms of performance)
  • Decent plastic build
  • Removable-battery design - something that's hard to find now-days
  • Pretty accurate face unlock
  • Decent 5.45-inch HD+ 18:9 screen - which is about as good as you can expect on a budget device in terms of color, sharpness and general quality
  • Near-stock Android UI keeps things nice and simple - and there is also very little bloatware
  • Reasonable camera setup for the price bracket - you get a 13-megapixel rear camera and 8-megapixel front camera - while they of course struggle in low-light conditions, regular light will give you images that are usable and entirely shareable on social media
  • Battery life is good, largely because of the energy-efficient hardware on the device - the low-resolution screen, frugal chipset and 3000mAh battery size contribute to giving you well over a day’s use on a single charge
  • As a first smartphone (if you are upgrading from a feature phone), and with a strict budget of Rs. 5, 000 - the Meizu Z9 is a pretty decent choice
2-minute Review [Negatives]
  • The plastic back and glass front are prone to smudges and scratches (you should use a case and/or screen protector)
  • Performance, especially in multi-tasking, could be better, and there are lags here and there - even though on paper the performance should be similar to its main competitor, the Redmi 5A, but in real life, the Redmi 5A comes out ahead
  • No fast charging support - will take more than 3 hours to charge the battery from zero to 100 per cent
  • Average performance, as you would expect with this price bracket - uses a Unisoc (earlier called Spreadtrum) SC9832E quad-core 1.3GHz chipset to power the device - it's a very basic chipset and coupled with 2GB RAM - you can only expect basic performance - loading apps takes a couple of seconds - but as long as you don't use the phone to run multiple apps and graphically-intensive games, you will be ok
  • If you can spend a bit more though, you want to look at the Redmi 6A or Honor 7S - which will give you better bang for the buck
