2-minute Review [Positives] |
- Beautiful, streamlined, flagship-grade aluminium and glass design
- Full IPX8 waterproofing
- Impressively light for what it has inside
- Beautiful large, edge-to-edge OLED screen - with vibrant colors and deep blacks - pretty close in quality to Samsung's top-notch Super AMOLEDs
- LG's Android UI looks decent and works well, although it's not really the best - that position is taken by the likes of OnePlus, and Samsung
- Speedy, top-end processor - delivers top-drawer performance similar to other Snapdragon 835 phones
- Very good dual rear cameras - capable of taking some excellent photos - they're crisp, full of life, and comparable to the excellent Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus
- In the daytime, the LG's second wide-angle camera is a special treat, letting you capture more of your surroundings in every frame - you just can't get these types of wide-angle photos with any other phone camera
- LG also offers a dizzying array of additional camera modes which you will found genuinely useful - this includes an excellent manual mode
- Video recording is excellent too, with powerful video features - 4K and 1080p/30fps videos out of the primary camera are top-notch
- Decent front-facing camera too, particularly its wide-angle mode
- The best headphone jack on a phone period - LG V30's "quad-DAC" (digital-to-analog converter) isn't just a marketing gimmick - it actually works - when you plug in good quality headphones into this phone's 3.5mm jack, your music lights up, growing richer, fuller and warmer - a treat for audiophiles - this is the best smartphone for audio today
- The loudspeaker is pretty good too
- Excellent battery life - will comfortably last the day even with heavy use - similar in overall life to the excellent Galaxy S8 Plus
- Supports wireless charging
- Supports quick charging - promises 50 percent charge in 30 minutes
- On the whole, the phone is a content creator's dream, with particular focus on videographers (who can shoot pro-style Log format video) and audiophiles
- On the whole, the LG V30 is a fantastic phone that nearly does it all - and a rock-solid alternative to Samsung’s Galaxy S8 Plus and the Google Pixel 2 XL - it is one of LG’s best in recent memory and as a result, it’s also one of 2017’s best smartphones

- Very good build quality and premium glass sandwich design, similar to its predecessor, the Redmi Note 7 Pro
- Uses Gorilla Glass 5, front and back
- Good quality, bright 6.53 inch IPS panel, with very good sunlight legibility
- Supports HDR - a rare find in this price range
- MIUI is one of the more refined and smooth Android skins around, and has a number of add-on features and a lot of customizability
- Excellent, best-in-class performance with the powerful Helio G90T on board - that performs around the same level as last year's flagship Snapdragon 845 - the Redmi Note 8 Pro sails through anything you throw at it - this is essentially a top-end gaming phone on the cheap - and it has a significant edge in benchmarks over it's main competitor, the Realme XT, that packs the Snapdragon 712
- The Note 8 Pro once again delivers some superlative camera performance for the price bracket (as the Note Pro series has done for a few years now) - especially from the main 64MP camera
- The quad camera setup on the rear includes a 64MP primary camera + 8MP ultra-wide + 2MP depth sensor + 2MP macro lens
- The main 64MP sensor is versatile and delivers excellent images at day and night
- It is also capable of some surprisingly good 2x (digital) zoom photos eliminating the need of a cheap telephoto lens
- The 20MP selfie camera is also pretty good
- Great video recording quality overall
- Overall, this is now the best camera phone under INR 20k, with a slight edge over the other great camera phone of this price bracket, the Realme XT, with clearer low-light photos, and slightly sharper images
- Excellent headphone audio
- Outstanding, class-leading battery life, with a 4500mAH cell and a super-efficient chipset - you will comfortably get 2 days of use and more
- Supports USB PD 18W fast charging, that can charge the phone from 0 to 40% in about 30 minutes - and for a change (for the Redmi Note Pro series), now also includes a compatible fast charger in box
- As usual, the new leader of Xiaomi's Redmi Note series is a fantastic bang-for-the-buck phone and will compete strongly with the Realme XT - choosing between the 2 will be down to your preference - the Note 8 Pro will deliver slightly faster performance, longer battery life, and slightly better camera - on the other hand, the Realme XT will deliver a better (OLED) display, under-display fingerprint reader, and faster 20W VOOC charging - you won't go wrong with either really
|
2-minute Review [Negatives] |
- The front facing camera, and overall low-light photography (of both front and rear cameras), while decent, aren’t industry-leading
- Wireless charging works fine - but it's not particularly fast. The V30 only supports standard 5-watt Qi charging and a newer 8-watt standard - not the 15-watt Fast Charge variant supported by Samsung and some competitors
|
- The camera bump on the rear is on the big side
- Hefty for the screen size, at 200g
- It's slippery like glass backs tend to be, so using a case is recommended
- It's not as clean and minimalistic as stock Android though - in the default setup you will get both plenty of bloatware, and ads in the UI
- The macro and ultra-wide cameras are uninspiring - for high quality photos you will want to stick to the main camera
- Video recording in 1080p could have been a bit better
- Weak-ish mono speaker - while okay, it isn’t very loud or crisp
