2-minute Review [Positives]
  • Decent plastic build
  • Removable-battery design - something that's hard to find now-days
  • Pretty accurate face unlock
  • Decent 5.45-inch HD+ 18:9 screen - which is about as good as you can expect on a budget device in terms of color, sharpness and general quality
  • Near-stock Android UI keeps things nice and simple - and there is also very little bloatware
  • Reasonable camera setup for the price bracket - you get a 13-megapixel rear camera and 8-megapixel front camera - while they of course struggle in low-light conditions, regular light will give you images that are usable and entirely shareable on social media
  • Battery life is good, largely because of the energy-efficient hardware on the device - the low-resolution screen, frugal chipset and 3000mAh battery size contribute to giving you well over a day’s use on a single charge
  • As a first smartphone (if you are upgrading from a feature phone), and with a strict budget of Rs. 5, 000 - the Meizu C9 is a pretty decent choice
  • Very good build quality
  • Nice looking plastic design, with a matte finish (though it's not quite as stylish and modern as the Realme C2, with the company's trademark diamond design and dewdrop notch)
  • Matte finish means it's easier to keep the phone's body clean and also doesn't highlight scratches
  • It is also a pretty compact phone - if you like smaller phones, you will like the Redmi 7A - it fits well in hands
  • Splash proof
  • Fast face unlock
  • Decent 5.45-inch IPS display with good viewing angles
  • MIUI is one of the more refined Android UIs, and packs many features like 'dark mode', 'reading mode' etc - this time the ads are relatively less intrusive too, compared to recent Redmi phones (although they are still there)
  • Pretty decent performance with the new Snapdragon 439 processor - day-to-day use is fairly smooth, and simple games run well
  • Overall processor performance is pretty similar compared to its main competitor, the Realme C2
  • Decent set of rear (12MP) and front cameras (5MP), for the price bracket
  • In outdoor situations specially, the cameras deliver good results with pretty good details and colours
  • Overall, the camera performance is similar to the other "relatively good" camera phone for the ultra-budget category, the Realme C2
  • Very good battery life with a large 4000mAH battery - you can easily get up to 1.5 days of use
  • The Xiaomi Redmi 7A is the first Xiaomi phone to come with two years of warranty
  • Overall, the Redmi 7A is a pretty solid ultra-budget option from the Xiaomi camp - if you don't care much for having a stylish design, and your performance requirements are basic, it's a good, reliable option to go for
2-minute Review [Negatives]
  • Average performance, as you would expect with this price bracket - uses a Unisoc (earlier called Spreadtrum) SC9832E quad-core 1.3GHz chipset to power the device - it's a very basic chipset - you can only expect basic performance - loading apps takes a couple of seconds - but as long as you don't use the phone to run multiple apps and graphically-intensive games, you will be ok
  • If you can spend a bit more though, you want to look at the Redmi 6A or Honor 7S - which will give you a better bang for the buck
  • While the design is pretty decent, it does looks a bit old-school with the large bezels
  • Sunlight legibility could have been better
  • 2GB RAM is somewhat limiting in terms of multitasking performance
  • Low light performance is expectedly average though
