2-minute Review [Positives]
  • Decent plastic build
  • Removable-battery design - something that's hard to find now-days
  • Pretty accurate face unlock
  • Decent 5.45-inch HD+ 18:9 screen - which is about as good as you can expect on a budget device in terms of color, sharpness and general quality
  • Near-stock Android UI keeps things nice and simple - and there is also very little bloatware
  • Reasonable camera setup for the price bracket - you get a 13-megapixel rear camera and 8-megapixel front camera - while they of course struggle in low-light conditions, regular light will give you images that are usable and entirely shareable on social media
  • Battery life is good, largely because of the energy-efficient hardware on the device - the low-resolution screen, frugal chipset and 3000mAh battery size contribute to giving you well over a day’s use on a single charge
  • As a first smartphone (if you are upgrading from a feature phone), and with a strict budget of Rs. 5, 000 - the Meizu C9 is a pretty decent choice
  • Compact size, so you don't have to hold with both hands while you are scrolling through your Facebook feed
  • Good display - one of the best in this price bracket - its bright, it shows punchy colours, and viewing angles too are good
  • The UI sticks to being close to stock Android which keeps things nice and simple
  • Great battery life, with a 4000mAh battery - you should be able to pull through up to 2 days with moderate use
2-minute Review [Negatives]
  • Average performance, as you would expect with this price bracket - uses a Unisoc (earlier called Spreadtrum) SC9832E quad-core 1.3GHz chipset to power the device - it's a very basic chipset - you can only expect basic performance - loading apps takes a couple of seconds - but as long as you don't use the phone to run multiple apps and graphically-intensive games, you will be ok
  • If you can spend a bit more though, you want to look at the Redmi 6A or Honor 7S - which will give you a better bang for the buck
  • Shiny plastic mirror-finish design might not be to everyone's taste and tends to looks more gaudy than expensive
  • The finish also makes the Yu Ace a fingerprint magnet and a device that is prone to scratches
  • Cameras too are pretty average and again a notch below the Redmi 5A - the Yu Ace doesn't capture as much detail or as sharp colours as what the Redmi 5A can manage
  • Overall, the Yu Ace is a pretty decent phone, but might find it a little hard to compete with the more well-established Redmi 5A in this price bracket, except if you prioritise battery life over other things
  • The device on the whole is also a bit clunky, and not as sleek/slim as some of the competition
  • Performance is average, apps tend to be a bit slow to open, and overall the speed is a notch below the top competition (i.e. the Redmi 5A)
