2-minute Review [Positives]
  • The Cranberry Red variant looks stylish with a unique gradient scheme
  • Compact size & light-weight - fits comfortably into your hand
  • Modern front with a dot-notch display
  • Reasonably fast rear mounted fingerprint sensor, and face unlock
  • Motorola continues to keep the software on it's phones clean, and simple - it's basically stock Android with a few useful Moto add-ons
  • Powered by a Helio P22 (similar to Snapdragon 625), performance of the device is good enough for day-to-day use, and casual games
  • Just about ok camera setup for the price bracket - on the rear is a dual-rear camera setup carrying a primary 13MP lens paired with a secondary 2MP depth sensor - on the front is a 8MP camera
  • Details, dynamic range, and exposure levels are ok
  • Selfies come out decent too
  • Google Lens is integrated into the camera app
  • The stock Android, 720p display, and battery of 3000mAh combine to give a decent (though, not exceptional) battery life - it will last you a full day with moderate use
  • One of the rare smartphones today that packs a removable battery - which gives the freedom to swap batteries when the original one is discharged or goes out of commission for good
  • Premium glass sandwich design housed within a sturdy aluminum frame - the stainless steel accents around the camera and the buttons, further add to the the aesthetics
  • Compact form-factor - one of the rare mid-range devices today that's built for one-handed use
  • Fast fingerprint scanner
  • Nice, tall, 'notch' based display - bright and vibrant - with useful add-ons like 'night light' and 'ambient display'
  • Stock Android UI keeps things nice and simple and being part of the Android One series, you are ensured regular Android updates for a good 2 years
  • A very capable mid-range chipset, the Snapdragon 636, ensures performance that is on par with the other top phone in this price bracket, the Redmi Note 5 Pro - almost anything you throw at the phone is handled well
  • Decent set of dual cameras on the rear, that can produce reasonably good pictures in good light, and also take decent bokeh shots
  • Decent front camera too - it takes decently well-detailed selfies that are sharp and saturated
  • Quick charging support
  • On the whole, the Nokia 6.1 is a good alternative to the Redmi Note 5 Pro in the mid range (the Redmi Note 5 Pro has the better camera, and better battery life, but Nokia 6.1 wins with stock Android, and is more compact) and gives you both some serious style and substance on a budget
2-minute Review [Negatives]
  • The Polished Graphite variant has a simple mirror finish, and looks a bit cheap
  • For both the color variants, the back is very glossy, and therefore a fingerprint magnet
  • Average IPS display - sunlight legibility, viewing angles, and color reproduction aren't too impressive
  • But it's not the best performer in this price bracket - the likes of Realme 3i have the much more powerful Helio P60
  • Images are generally a bit on the dull side though
  • Bokeh shots take 2-3 seconds to process
  • Low light performance is expectedly average
  • Lacks a compass - which is a big miss at this price point in 2019
  • Overall, the Moto E6s will find it a struggle to compete with the likes of Realme 3i and Redmi 7 which offer significantly better value (more powerful chips, bigger batteries and better cameras)
  • Although glass designs always tend to be more premium, they also tend to be slippery, fingerprint magnets, and less durable (so you might want to use a case)
  • Both the rear and front cameras are not very good in sub-optimal lighting conditions - and even overall, not up to the high standards of the Redmi Note 5 Pro, or the Mi A2
  • The camera app on the Nokia 6.1 Plus is somewhat cluttered too
  • Battery life is ok, but definitely could have been better given the competition - it will last you the day with moderate use, but with heavy use you will need to recharge it by late evening

  1. Possibly one of the only phones at this price to offer 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, which is a great, but it compromises a bit too much in other areas, which makes it a little difficult to recommend
