2-minute Review [Positives] |
- Looks snazzy - the plastic chassis is finished in 2 colour gradient, which fades from a lighter to a darker shade as you cast your eyes downward
- The front has pleasingly rounded edges and slimline bezels with a tear-drop notch that looks striking, for a phone at this price
- Decent fingerprint sensor at the back
- Vibrant, large 6.5-inches IPS display - the images on the screen have a good amount of pop thanks to the display’s reasonably high contrast (though, the Redmi 9 Prime offers a Full HD display at this price)
- Sunlight legibility is good
- Motorola continues to keep the software on it's phones clean, and simple - it's basically stock Android with a few useful Moto add-ons
- Decent performance from the Snapdragon 460 - there's no issue in regular use, thanks to the clean and light software Motorola uses
- Good dual rear camera setup - a 48MP primary module, and a 2MP depth sensor
- In daylight, photos carry a good amount of details with bright colors and high contrasts - colours are boosted slightly to enhance appeal but the camera never overdoes it
- Low-light shooting is surprisingly good for the price - images appear bright, and the camera does an excellent job of teasing textures out from the shadows without adding too much visual noise
- Portrait mode is also good - the depth detection is good and subject separation is on par with other Motorola phones
- The 8MP selfie camera does a good job at taking clear sharp photos and it also offers a selfie portrait mode, which works well
- Excellent battery life from the 5000 mAh battery - a full charge will easily last you for 2 days of regular use
- The Motorola E7 Plus has good cameras for this price, it impresses with a quality user experience, and solid performance, battery life is good too, lastly, the design is trendy and it stands out among the phones from Redmi and Realme with its classy touches
|
- Striking, shade shifting rear design - the Redmi 9 Prime's looks similar to the more expensive Poco X2 with its quad-camera arrangement in a circular patch
- The front is the routine, dew-drop notch with decent bezels
- The fingerprint scanner is on the back and it is fast and reliable
- The textured back of the Redmi 9 feels great in the hand and provides excellent grip
- Sharp, vibrant, and vivid 6.53-inch full HD+ IPS display - keeping the price-point of the phone in mind, Redmi 9 Prime offers a pretty good display
- MIUI 11 is as feature rich as ever, the overall interface on the phone is quite smooth and user friendly - Android 10 is running beneath all the jazz
- Very good performance from the new MediaTek G80 chipset (similar to the Snapdragon 712) - the phone smoothly handles day-to-day task with ease and heavy games like PUBG Mobile run reasonably well
- Decent quad-camera setup - a 13MP main, an 8MP ultra-wide, a 5MP macro camera, and a 2MP depth sensor
- The photos from the main camera are good for this budget class
- The ultra-wide camera is among the better ones at this price and captures more of the scene easily
- The macro camera puts out decent close-ups if you get the distance right with its fixed focus lens
- The portraits are detailed, and the blur is convincing thanks to the dedicated depth sensor
- Decent selfies from the 8MP front camera - portrait mode is available for selfies too, and it is as competent as a single fixed-focus camera can be
- Excellent battery life with the 5020 mAh cell - with regular use, the Redmi 9 Prime easily lasts through two days of use
- Redmi 9 Prime is a great option for people looking for a phone with decent gaming performance, good display, and solid battery life at an affordable price
|
2-minute Review [Negatives] |
- At 200g, the phone is reasonably hefty
- It also picks up greasy fingerprints a little too easily
- However, this is not the most powerful phone at this price and gaming on this phone is a no go - the Realme Narzo 10A and Redmi 9 Prime both offer outstanding performance at this price
- No fast charging
- However, if you want a bit more power in your phone and a higher resolution display the Redmi 9 Prime is a good alternative at this price, though it's not for stock Android lovers
|
- The display has average sunlight legibility and you’d have to keep the brightness all the way up for more clarity
- It packs in plenty of bloatware, so you can get strange notifications and ads, which is annoying
- Average low-light photos, the camera struggles to get the exposure right
- Charging is a bit slow - the 10W charger included in the box tops up the Redmi 9 Prime in 2 hours and 48 minutes
