2-minute Review [Positives]
  • Classy looks with a glass-on-front-and-back design, and a neat curved form factor - the Nokia 4.2 excels on the build and design front, and is easily on the best designed phones of this price segment
  • Compact, and very friendly for one-handed smartphone use
  • The power key houses a “breathing” notification light, which pulsates in white every time there’s a new notification
  • There is also a dedicated Google Assistant key, to fire up the assistant
  • Decent, modern, tiny-notch 5.71-inch display - with fairly rich colors
  • The best part about Nokia's phones remains the clean, stock Android One experience with the promise of regular software updates for up to two years
  • Android 9 Pie’s gesture navigation feature is enabled by default, and you get all other Pie goodies too, like Adaptive Battery and Digital Wellbeing
  • Decent battery life with a 3000mAh battery, supported by Android Pie's Adaptive Battery feature - you will comfortably get a day even with moderate use
  • Beautiful diamond-cut pattern on the back - it's a head turner, and quite impressive for this price bracket - you will find an identical back design on the more expensive Realme 1 and Realme 2 smartphones - the only difference here is instead of the glossy plastic, the Realme C2 is offering a matte finish
  • Offers a very comfortable grip because of the textured back
  • The matte finish and textured back also don’t attract fingerprints or smudges, like many other modern glossy phones
  • The plastic body makes it feel light
  • There is no fingerprint reader, but the face unlock system is pretty good
  • Modern, tall, dew-drop notch display
  • Quite good for binge-watching videos
  • Ships with latest version of Android, Android Pie - one of the few affordable phones to do that
  • ColorOS 6 adds a ton of nifty features, and an app drawer (something that had been requested by users from a long time)
  • Decent day-to-day performance with a Helio P22 chipset (similar to Snapdragon 625) - basic use, and casual games run just fine - though of course, this is not a phone for power users
  • Pretty decent camera performance, especially for daytime use - the images have decent enough details and punchy colors
  • There is also Chroma Boost mode if you want more saturated and well-contrasted images.
  • The shutter speed is fast enough and auto-focus is snappy
  • Overall, this is one of the best camera setups in the ultra-budget category
  • Excellent battery life with a large 4000mAh battery - with light to moderate use, you will get nearly two days of battery
  • Overall, the Realme C2 is another 'very good bang for your buck' device from Realme, that can compete with similar phones from the current leader, Xiaomi - you get a beautiful design, a big display with a tiny notch, decent cameras, and an excellent 4000mAh battery - this is a very good pick for basic smartphone users, who don't need the best performance from their smartphones, but want a solid device otherwise (if you do need faster performance, you will want to look at higher price brackets)
2-minute Review [Negatives]
  • The glass back is of course susceptible to fingerprints and smudges
  • While the fingerprint scanner at the back works well, it’s hard to find in a hurry with just your finger as there’s no dimple
  • Powered by a Snapdragon 439, performance (especially GPU) is not the Nokia 4.2's strong suit - so while the phone is fit for everyday tasks like light browsing, video playback, calling, messaging, and light gaming - if you are more of a power user, you will want to look elsewhere
  • Camera performance too is average, both from the dual rear cameras and single front camera
  • Photos taken are moderately bright and colourful but contain an unexpected tinge of light yellow
  • Photos taken indoors appear noisy and even a bit blurry no matter how steadily the phone is held
  • The default camera app, while easy to use, is on the slow side - the digital viewfinder freezes for nearly a second when a shot is taken or a mode is changed - the lag worsens while shooting in low light - rendering Live Bokeh shots and previewing regular shots taken through Auto mode also take over a second or two to happen
  • Average single bottom firing speaker - while it's loud - music sounds shrill on the ears when played at full volume
  • One the whole, while the Nokia 4.2 is a pretty decent budget Android One phone, it loses out on the performance front, and in the camera department, so if you are looking for a better 'all-rounder' budget phone, you will find better choices around
  • Display resolution is on the low side
  • Average legibility under sunlight
  • There are a bunch of preloaded apps, including DailyHunt, UC Browser, NewsPoint, ShareChat, Amazon India, Wynk Music, Webnovel, Opera browser etc - though thankfully you can uninstall all of these apps to save some storage space
  • Indoor (low-light) shots are average though, as you would expect from this price bracket - you can use Chrome Boost for slightly better results but, the mode takes time to deliver the final output
