The OnePlus 8 Pro (12GB RAM, 256GB) is a slightly better phone than the Samsung Galaxy S20, and is also significantly better value for money. What should you buy? Go for the OnePlus 8 Pro (12GB RAM, 256GB)!

2-minute Review [Positives]
  • Gorgeous, premium design - the OnePlus 8 Pro uses a familiar soft-touch glass back and an aluminium frame - the OnePlus 8 Pro shares the same core design ethos as the OnePlus 7 Pro
  • On the front is a beautiful edge-to-edge display and a hole-punch selfie camera
  • OnePlus’s handy alert slider is still here, which enables you to quickly switch between silent, vibrate and sound-on modes
  • With a rating of IP68, the OnePlus 8 Pro is protected against total dust ingress, and submersion in up to one meter of water for 30 minutes
  • The in-display fingerprint reader is quite accurate and works quickly
  • A gorgeous 6.78-inch, QHD+ screen, with excellent viewing angles and what looks like spot-on colour reproduction - the display offers an industry-leading 1300 nits peak brightness
  • OnePlus has bumped up the refresh rate to 120 Hz which results in smooth scrolling in apps, and better graphical fluidity in games, overall providing a more premium experience - you can even use the 120 Hz at QHD+ resolution, unlike it's Samsung counterpart
  • When it comes to video playback, content can be enhanced further with two additional settings - 'Vibrant color effect pro' optimises the colours and contrast in videos to provide a more vibrant picture - 'Motion graphics smoothing' increases the frame rate of the video for clearer and more smooth playback
  • Overall, the OnePlus 8 Pro display is one of the best on a smartphone, at present
  • OxygenOS continues to be one of the most thoughtfully-designed, clean (stock-like) UIs for Android with a host of additional customisation
  • Blistering performance from the Qualcomm's top-of-the-line Snapdragon 865 chipset - with its 120Hz display, highly-optimised OxygenOS software, and plenty of under-the-hood tweaks, the OnePlus 8 Pro feels like the fastest phone around
  • Excellent quad-camera setup - consisting of a 48MP primary camera, a 48MP ultra-wide lens, an 8MP telephoto lens and a 5MP colour filter sensor
  • Shots taken with the primary camera are sharp and well-exposed with plenty of details, dynamic range is quite good with true-to-life colours, and white balance is consistent with the scene
  • The ultra-wide camera takes great shots as well, it pulls double duty and can shoot close-up macro photos as well - images shot with the ultra-wide lens have good details
  • Image quality from the telephoto camera is pretty good, colours and white balance are mostly consistent with the other cameras - it lets you zoom up to 3x optically and 30x with a mix of digital zoom
  • "Color filter camera" produces interesting images with its photo-chrome filter over the sensor (though, it feels more like a gimmick that normal people will hardly use)
  • Lowlight performance is quite good and the ultra-wide camera can also be used to shoot Nightscape photos
  • Portraits look pretty good, and the subject separation is on point - the portrait effect is quite convincing with smooth and silky bokeh around the subject
  • The 16MP selfie camera is the same one used in the OnePlus 7 Pro - it takes great-looking selfies with excellent dynamic range and just the right amount of sharpness
  • Portrait photos are quite good on the selfie camera as well - the subject separation is quite well
  • Video recording looks great with detail and dynamic range - stabilisation is also excellent with the Super Steady mode
  • Excellent stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, providing richer, deeper sound
  • Very good battery life with the 4510 mAh battery - which is the biggest OnePlus has ever put in a handset, and larger than the power pack you'll find in the Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus, Huawei P40 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro - it will comfortably last a full day on a single charge
  • Excellent fast charging - OnePlus has upgraded its Warp Charge 30T charging, to get you from 0% to 50% in 23 minutes via a wired connection
  • OnePlus has included fast wireless charging called Warp Charge 30 Wireless, and it takes you from 1% to 50% in 30 minutes (though, the faster charging can only be achieved with OnePlus wireless charger which costs extra)
  • With the OnePlus 8 Pro, you get an unabashed flagship, with all the bells and whistles - powerful specs, an amazing display, fast wireless charging, and water resistance make the OnePlus 8 Pro a great alternative to the Galaxy S20 Plus, and it saves you thousands of rupees
  • Top end flagship build quality - the Galaxy S20 is a fine piece of hardware that exudes quality and craftsmanship
  • The front looks absolutely gorgeous with an almost edge to edge screen and just a single punch-hole at the top centre - the front glass is slightly less curved along the side edges than previous S series phones
  • The phone is sealed tight and carries an IP68 rating, so you can accidentally dunk it in some water and it’ll survive
  • Ergonomically, the Galaxy S20 is the best of the lot with the most compact, easy to handle size
  • Stunning 6.2-inch Dynamic AMOLED screen that is the best you can buy on any phone right now - the sharpness of the display is simply outstanding with eye-popping clarity
  • The 120Hz refresh rate gives the screen a luscious smoothness that has to be seen to be believed, you’ve got a screen that simply dominates every other panel on the market
  • The screen is also HDR10+ certified, which means the right content will deliver incredible dynamic range - the HDR10 movies on Netflix look really impressive
  • Running the Galaxy S20 is Samsung's OneUI 2 on Android 10 - which, as far as Android UIs go, is one of the most refined, well thought-out experiences
  • Powering the Galaxy S20 is the Samsung's own Exynos 990, which is one of the best CPUs available in the market, just a shade behind the Apple's A13 - the phone feels fast all the time, no matter what content or app you throw at the S20, it devours the calculations and offers buttery smooth performance
  • Samsung gave the Galaxy S20 an impressive triple-camera system on the rear - the standard lens boasts a 12MP sensor, joined by an ultra wide-angle 12MP camera, and an optical telephoto 64MP camera
  • The primary 12MP camera gives you crisp detailed images with the good dynamic range that Samsung’s cameras are known for and the colours are wonderful
  • 64MP telephoto lens is capable of 3x lossless zoom and up to 30x digital zoom - the Galaxy S20's mix of sophisticated hardware and software deliver a precise images that are much clearer than anything else in the market (the 100x zoom is not present in the S20 and S20 Plus)
  • The Galaxy S20's 12MP Ultra-wide lens churns out exceptional results, delivering eye-catching shots, even in challenging lighting conditions
  • The low-light shots turn impressive, even in incredibly dark situations, the clarity is quite impressive, and the colours are perfect with little noise - the night mode further improves the quality with brighter and colourful images (though, the Pixel and iPhones still do a slightly better job in low light)
  • The most standout camera feature on the S20 is Single Take mode - when engaged, Single Take records a 10-second video and snaps multiple images, giving you an entire gallery of options to choose from and share
  • Video recording with the phone looks amazing - it’s sharp, colourful, properly exposed, and on-point when it comes to white balance - video also supports live focus mode, this uses the ToF camera to help judge depth and create a portrait-like effect when capturing video - it is also capable of capturing 8K videos (though, the use case for 8K is very limited)
  • The Galaxy S20 has improved ten-fold in Live Focus mode - it captures very realistic photos and is a massive step up from the portrait mode in Samsung’s prior phones (though, iPhone 11 series is still the champ in portrait shots)
  • The 10MP selfie camera does a fine job - you get a clear view of your pores in good light, and the target resolution dips in low light to keep images clean and bright
  • A pair of USB-C headphones is included in the box
  • Very good stereo speakers
  • Good battery life with the 4000 mAh cell - you will get a comfortable one day of use with heavy to moderate use
  • Sufficient fast charging with the supplied 25W charger - it boosts the battery by 50% after just 27 minutes
  • Also supports 15W wireless charging, and it can fill the battery to 50% in just 35 minutes on a charging pad
  • It also supports wireless reverse charging and can charge other phones or accessories that support wireless charging
  • The Galaxy S20 has a gorgeous screen, classy hardware, wicked performance, good battery life, and capable cameras, and the Samsung's name - if that's what you're looking for, go buy it
2-minute Review [Negatives]
  • The OnePlus 8 Pro is a large handset, and many users will find that two hands are required to hold it securely
  • There doesn't seem to be any 'palm rejection', which could be an issue while dealing with the extreme curved display and you might see frequent accidental touches
  • Overall, the OnePlus 8 Pro has a great set of cameras, but they're still not on the same level as the best of the best like the iPhone's and the Pixel's
  • However, if you want the very best smartphone photography experience, the iPhone 11 series and the S20 series are still the way to go
  • The in-display fingerprint sensor is unreliable - it’s slower than other sensors on competition and far less accurate
  • Aesthetically, the Galaxy S20 looks dull, there's no flair in the design, like the Aura Glow option Samsung introduced last year, which looked fascinating - the huge camera module doesn't help either
  • Overall, while Samsung has created flagship lever cameras that compete at the top level and comes out as champs in many situations, they are still slightly behind the iPhone cameras, that are more consistent
