2-minute Review [Positives] |
- Elegant and attractive looks - the Nord has the same design language as OnePlus flagships, and the in-hand feel is excellent
- Front design is similar to some of the Oppo and Realme phones with its dual punch-hole selfie camera
- The flat panel makes it significantly easier to use the phone with single hand
- The in-display fingerprint sensor as well as the face unlock works very well, and all it needs is a quick tap to unlock the phone
- Bright, crisp 6.44-inch Super AMOLED display - the 90Hz display on the Nord is just as vibrant and fluid as the OnePlus 8 with punchy colours and excellent viewing angles
- The brightness levels are more than enough for any situation indoors while being enough for direct under-the-sun use
- The OxygenOS is delight to have at this price, it is one of the most thoughtful, simple and clean Android skins which arguably offers the best user experience at this price point
- Snappy and fluid performance from the new Snapdragon 765G - in regular use there's hardly any difference between the Nord and OnePlus 8, it feels as fast and responsive as it's more expensive sibling - heavy games like PUBG mobile and Asphalt 9 run at their highest setting without any issue or lag
- Good camera setup for the price - a 48MP primary camera, 8MP ultra-wide camera, 5MP depth sensor and a 2MP macro
- The primary camera is the same as the one on the OnePlus 8 and captures good detail and colours are really punchy and vibrant
- The ultra-wide camera captures does a good job with colours and HDR with expected weaker details than the primary camera
- The macro camera works decently well when there is a good amount of ambient light around the subject
- The portrait lens also does a decent job, creates good bokeh and brings out nice portrait shots
- Low-light photos turn out decent, given strong enough light sources around - for darker scenes, OnePlus offers a dedicated Night mode which can be quite effective in brightening up photos
- Very good dual selfie cameras, a 32MP primary and an 8MP ultra-wide - the primary camera captures very good details, skin tones look good, and HDR is handled well
- The ultra-wide front camera is a thoughtful addition which captures a lot wider scene for all your groupies
- Overall, OnePlus has accumulated a great set of cameras for the price, they need some more tuning which OnePlus is known to provide with future updates
- Very good battery life from the 4115 mAh battery - it can easily accommodate for a day and half worth of usage with light to moderate use at 90 Hz, switching to 60 Hz improves the battery even futher
- Very good fast charging with the provided 30W charger in the box - it is able to take the battery to around 93 per cent in an hour, which is fairly quick
- The OnePlus Nord ticks all the right boxes - you get a 90Hz AMOLED display, robust hardware, good set of cameras at the back and front, unmatched software experience, and 30W fast charging - OnePlus did a fantastic job distilling the essence of its flagships into the Nord, and the result is one of the best mid-range phones in 2020

- Exquisite design - curved display along with a matching curved back panel gives the phone a premium look
- Oppo Reno4 Pro is an extremely slim and lightweight device, making it very easy to use - it is the lightest in the Reno Series
- The face recognition feature works extremely well, even under dim lighting
- Large, 6.5-inch full-HD+ Super AMOLED display - it get a Gorilla Glass 5 for scratch protection - the screen has a sharp colour saturation and the brightness levels are more than enough
- Reno 4 Pro has a 90 Hz panel and is extremely responsive and quick with respect to any changes in the content been viewed - the refresh rate and the touch sampling rate are indeed good, and aligned with the standards of the OnePlus Nord
- The company has revamped the user interface to offer a more simplified experience with the ColorOS 7 - it now provides new themes, wallpapers, icon styles - all these improvements make a considerable difference and make ColorOS 7 stand apart from any version in the past
- Good performance from the Snapdragon 720G - navigating the interface feels snappy, apps load quickly, and multitasking is generally a breeze - heavy games like call of Duty: Mobile and Asphalt 9: Legends run just fine too, with reasonably good graphics
- Decent quad camera setup - a 48MP primary, 8MP ultra-wide, 2MP macro, and a 2MP depth sensor
- Daylight photos out of main cam are really nice - you get sharpness and detail, dynamic range is plenty wide, and colour reproduction is well balanced too and you get lively output without excessive saturation
- The ultra-wide lens is helpful to get a wider perspective and fit more in the shot (though captures weaker details)
- The portrait shots are also pretty decent wherein you can adjust the level of blueness and even add a few fun effects
- In low-light, the Reno4 Pro puts out decent images for its class - you do have Night mode to brighten up the shadows for you, and that it does well, highlights do get better developed too
- The 32MP selfie camera puts out a solid selfie performance - selfie portraits come with good subject separation and pleasing, natural-looking blur
- Good battery life with the 4000 mAh battery - easily lasts for about a day and half on average, with medium to light usage
- Ridiculously quick 65W fast charging - it can go from 0 to 100 percent in just 30 minutes, which is insane
- If you value a slim and light smartphone, the Reno 4 Pro can appeal to you - you also get incredibly quick charging, good battery life, and a premium-looking display
|
2-minute Review [Negatives] |
- The Nord has a plastic mid-frame which definitely affects its premium positioning
|
- The in-display fingerprint sensor is average and not very accurate
- Oppo has compromised by using a plastic frame instead of metal, and a polymer resin instead of glass
- The Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G might be a speedy and efficient chip for a low-cost phone, but using it here means, the Reno 4 Pro is definitely outclassed by its peers
- The macro shots are plain and unimpressive
- However, the Reno4 Pro feels a bit overpriced due to its choice of SOC and cameras that aren't the best in class - there are better phones available like the OnePlus 7T at this price
