2-minute Review [Positives]
  • Elegant and attractive looks - the Nord has the same design language as OnePlus flagships, and the in-hand feel is excellent
  • Front design is similar to some of the Oppo and Realme phones with its dual punch-hole selfie camera
  • The flat panel makes it significantly easier to use the phone with single hand
  • The in-display fingerprint sensor as well as the face unlock works very well, and all it needs is a quick tap to unlock the phone
  • Bright, crisp 6.44-inch Super AMOLED display - the 90Hz display on the Nord is just as vibrant and fluid as the OnePlus 8 with punchy colours and excellent viewing angles
  • The brightness levels are more than enough for any situation indoors while being enough for direct under-the-sun use
  • The OxygenOS is delight to have at this price, it is one of the most thoughtful, simple and clean Android skins which arguably offers the best user experience at this price point
  • Snappy and fluid performance from the new Snapdragon 765G - in regular use there's hardly any difference between the Nord and OnePlus 8, it feels as fast and responsive as it's more expensive sibling - heavy games like PUBG mobile and Asphalt 9 run at their highest setting without any issue or lag
  • Good camera setup for the price - a 48MP primary camera, 8MP ultra-wide camera, 5MP depth sensor and a 2MP macro
  • The primary camera is the same as the one on the OnePlus 8 and captures good detail and colours are really punchy and vibrant
  • The ultra-wide camera captures does a good job with colours and HDR with expected weaker details than the primary camera
  • The macro camera works decently well when there is a good amount of ambient light around the subject
  • The portrait lens also does a decent job, creates good bokeh and brings out nice portrait shots
  • Low-light photos turn out decent, given strong enough light sources around - for darker scenes, OnePlus offers a dedicated Night mode which can be quite effective in brightening up photos
  • Very good dual selfie cameras, a 32MP primary and an 8MP ultra-wide - the primary camera captures very good details, skin tones look good, and HDR is handled well
  • The ultra-wide front camera is a thoughtful addition which captures a lot wider scene for all your groupies
  • Overall, OnePlus has accumulated a great set of cameras for the price, they need some more tuning which OnePlus is known to provide with future updates
  • Very good battery life from the 4115 mAh battery - it can easily accommodate for a day and half worth of usage with light to moderate use at 90 Hz, switching to 60 Hz improves the battery even futher
  • Very good fast charging with the provided 30W charger in the box - it is able to take the battery to around 93 per cent in an hour, which is fairly quick
  • The OnePlus Nord ticks all the right boxes - you get a 90Hz AMOLED display, robust hardware, good set of cameras at the back and front, unmatched software experience, and 30W fast charging - OnePlus did a fantastic job distilling the essence of its flagships into the Nord, and the result is one of the best mid-range phones in 2020
  • The Vivo X50 is a breath of fresh air, bringing a sexy, luxurious design - the soft satin finish of the glass back with a classy matte metallic hue gives it a unique and amiable look
  • It is one of the few Android phones that is somewhat compact and relatively light-weight at this price
  • The under-display fingerprint scanner is fast and accurate for the most part and there's also Face Unlock that works well
  • Very good 6.5-inch AMOLED FHD+ screen, which looks pretty good - the colours are punchy, saturated and viewing content on it is a delight
  • The display have all the bells and whistles here including a 90Hz refresh rate, 180Hz response rate, HDR10+ support and up to 1300 nits peak brightness
  • Good performance with the new Snapdragon 730 - the Vivo X50 dashes through everything you throw at it, for day to day use, you should have no issues whatsoever and Heavy 3D games like PUBG Mobile runs smoothly
  • Very good quad camera setup - a primary gimbal 48MP sensor, a 13MP portrait zoom lens, an 8MP ultra-wide and an 5MP macro camera
  • In daylight everything looks generally pleasing including sharp, detailed shots with good colours - close-ups look excellent too, with sharp details and generous background bokeh
  • The ultra-wide camera gets you that extra-wide perspective on the world - it adds a little extra fun to the functionality with the macro mode and can take sharp and detailed close-ups - this pretty much renders the dedicated macro camera obsolete
  • Portrait shots of people and objects generally look good - you can adjust the level of background blur, and add beauty effects and filters
  • The front-facing 32MP camera does a good job - the portrait mode works well, filters, Beauty and other usual features are also present
  • Overall, this is one of the more exciting camera setups at this price and Vivo isn't playing a numbers game, each camera has different functionality that adds to the overall versatility of the cameras
  • Good loudspeaker performance - the output is loud and clear with very little distortion in the bass at full volume
  • Good battery life with the 4200 mAh cell - it will easily last a full day on a single charge with 90 Hz display on moderate use
  • Very good fast charging with the 33W Flash Charger - it can fill up the battery in about 80 minutes
  • The Vivo X50 is a pretty solid all-rounder - it looks stylish, is built well, and has good cameras, battery life and the AMOLED display are also some of its strong suits (though, the software might be an eyesore to a lot of users, it also feels a little underpowered for the price)
2-minute Review [Negatives]
  • The Nord has a plastic mid-frame which definitely affects its premium positioning
  • As with all previous Vivo phones, the software experience continues to be the pain point, it has barely improved over the last few years - this wouldn’t have been as big a deal if it were another one of Vivo’s budget smartphones, but consumers expect an ad-free, no-frills affair in the premium segment, that the X50 Pro is lacking
  • The Snapdragon 730 is a good processor, but for a phone at this price the Vivo X50 feels a little underpowered
  • There’s no headphone jack and you will have to invest in some good Bluetooth headsets if you want to charge your phone and listen to music simultaneously
  • For the price, the Vivo X50 is a little underpowered compared to phones such as the Realme X2 Pro and OnePlus 7T, which both have flagship-level SoCs - while this shouldn't hamper day-to-day performance, it could prevent certain high-end games from running at their full potential
