2-minute Review [Positives] |
- Elegant and attractive looks - the Nord has the same design language as OnePlus flagships, and the in-hand feel is excellent
- Front design is similar to some of the Oppo and Realme phones with its dual punch-hole selfie camera
- The flat panel makes it significantly easier to use the phone with single hand
- The in-display fingerprint sensor as well as the face unlock works very well, and all it needs is a quick tap to unlock the phone
- Bright, crisp 6.44-inch Super AMOLED display - the 90Hz display on the Nord is just as vibrant and fluid as the OnePlus 8 with punchy colours and excellent viewing angles
- The brightness levels are more than enough for any situation indoors while being enough for direct under-the-sun use
- The OxygenOS is delight to have at this price, it is one of the most thoughtful, simple and clean Android skins which arguably offers the best user experience at this price point
- Snappy and fluid performance from the new Snapdragon 765G - in regular use there's hardly any difference between the Nord and OnePlus 8, it feels as fast and responsive as it's more expensive sibling - heavy games like PUBG mobile and Asphalt 9 run at their highest setting without any issue or lag
- Good camera setup for the price - a 48MP primary camera, 8MP ultra-wide camera, 5MP depth sensor and a 2MP macro
- The primary camera is the same as the one on the OnePlus 8 and captures good detail and colours are really punchy and vibrant
- The ultra-wide camera captures does a good job with colours and HDR with expected weaker details than the primary camera
- The macro camera works decently well when there is a good amount of ambient light around the subject
- The portrait lens also does a decent job, creates good bokeh and brings out nice portrait shots
- Low-light photos turn out decent, given strong enough light sources around - for darker scenes, OnePlus offers a dedicated Night mode which can be quite effective in brightening up photos
- Very good dual selfie cameras, a 32MP primary and an 8MP ultra-wide - the primary camera captures very good details, skin tones look good, and HDR is handled well
- The ultra-wide front camera is a thoughtful addition which captures a lot wider scene for all your groupies
- Overall, OnePlus has accumulated a great set of cameras for the price, they need some more tuning which OnePlus is known to provide with future updates
- Very good battery life from the 4115 mAh battery - it can easily accommodate for a day and half worth of usage with light to moderate use at 90 Hz, switching to 60 Hz improves the battery even futher
- Very good fast charging with the provided 30W charger in the box - it is able to take the battery to around 93 per cent in an hour, which is fairly quick
- The OnePlus Nord ticks all the right boxes - you get a 90Hz AMOLED display, robust hardware, good set of cameras at the back and front, unmatched software experience, and 30W fast charging - OnePlus did a fantastic job distilling the essence of its flagships into the Nord, and the result is one of the best mid-range phones in 2020
|
- The design feels fresh and vibrant - phone's sleek profile is eye-catching, with a matte back glass, it is one of the nicest looking phones for the price
- The phone looks quite flawless from the back, it features a rather flashy back cover
- The Vivo V20 is one of the lightest around in the price segment, and at 7.38mm in thickness, it is surprisingly slim
- The power button has a texture to give it a more distinguished feeling
- The in-display fingerprint scanner, as well as face recognition, are quick to unlock the V20
- The display is a gorgeous 6.44-inch AMOLED FHD+ panel which promises vibrant and life-like colours - the contrast is impressive and it also supports HDR10 for high-quality video playback
- It gets bright enough for using the device even under harsh sunlight
- The Vivo V20 comes with Android 11 out of the box, with Vivo's new Funtouch OS 11 - this new skin by Vivo brings several bells and whistles, and a much cleaner, simpler interface - there's an improved dark mode and tons of customisation options
- Good performance from the Snapdragon 720G SoC - it is good enough to help you through tasks of daily use and even running multiple apps simultaneously - casual gaming is no issue and heavy games run at medium settings, which is decent
- Good triple cameras for the price - a 64MP primary camera, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 2MP mono camera
- Photos shot in bright sunny conditions turned out well - images clicked using the device generally come out with life-like colours and packing good detail
- The Ultra-wide camera adds fun new perspectives, it can take dramatic super-wide-angle photos with lesser details than the main camera - besides, it can also take Macro shots, which come out with good detail, and you end up with a higher resolution image compared to what most dedicated macro cameras produce
- Portraits have good edge detection and you do get the option to set the intensity of the blur effect - beautification is enabled by default which smoothens skin textures
- Low-light camera performance is good, photos have little noise and details in brighter areas are decent - enabling Night mode improves the level of detail
- The 44MP selfie camera is very good at what it does - daylight selfies are sharp with accurate colours and good details, there's also an Eye Autofocus option that keeps the subject in sharp focus - portrait selfies are possible and you can set the level of blur before taking a shot
- Video recording in daylight is good, video recording tops out at 4K for the primary as well as the selfie shooter - footage shot in 4K, as well as 1080p, is stabilised (though, video shot in low light has a shimmer effect at both resolutions, which isn't good)
- Overall, cameras are one of the highlights of the phone and they can take on any other capable camera phone at this price
- Good battery life from the 4000 mAh battery - it can easily manage to keep the phone going on for around a day on moderate-heavy use
- Charging is quick with the supplied 33W FlashCharge charger - it takes the V20 to 98 percent in an hour
- If you value looks over other aspects, the Vivo V20 will appeal to you, it is well designed and feels premium to the touch - the device also offers above par photography performance, it emerges as a very good option for taking pictures and shooting videos
|
2-minute Review [Negatives] |
- The Nord has a plastic mid-frame which definitely affects its premium positioning
|
- Because of its slim profile, the Vivo V20 is a bit slippery
- Though, it isn't a high-refresh-rate panel
- However, this isn't the best performing phone at the price, there are better options available like the OnePlus Nord
- However, if heavy-duty gaming is what you're looking for, alternatives such as the OnePlus Nord offer significantly better performance, you can also consider the Galaxy M51 for its insane battery life powered by a 7000 mAh battery
