2-minute Review [Positives] |
- Gorgeous, modern design - the bold camera design and the a mirror-split design with matte finish adds up to a great looking device
- The phone looks quite flawless from the back, it features a rather flashy back cover
- The F17 Pro measures 7.48mm in thickness and weighs just 164g, which makes it incredibly comfortable to use for long periods, be it gaming or texting
- The in-display fingerprint scanner, as well as face recognition, are quick to unlock the F17 Pro
- The frame and the back panel are built from plastic, but this phone still feels quite rugged
- The display is an excellent 6.43-inch Super AMOLED FHD+ panel which promises inky blacks and vivid colours - watching movies and videos on the screen is an enjoyable experience
- It gets bright enough for using the device even under harsh sunlight
- The F17 Pro runs ColorOS 7.2 on top of Android 10, which is a feature-rich custom Android skin - Smart Sidebar, Quick Return Bubble, themes, and custom apps such as Oppo Relax are all present and there's plenty of room for customisation
- Decent performance from the Helio P95 SoC - the F17 Pro handles multitasking and everyday apps quite well
- Decent quad cameras for the price - these include a 48MP main camera, an 8MP ultra wide-angle camera, a 2MP monochrome camera, and a 2MP depth camera
- In daylight, the primary sensor captures sharp and well-detailed 12MP binned images - exposure and colours are handled very well and autofocus is reliable, which made capturing close-ups quite easy
- The ultra wide-angle camera captured shots with equally good exposures, even though details were a bit soft
- Portrait mode works well, correctly blurring out the right areas behind the subject in most instances, the level of background blur can be adjusted before taking a shot
- The main 16MP front camera captures decent-looking selfies under good light, facial details are good and skin tones generally look natural - portrait selfie option is also present for you to use
- Good battery life from the 4000 mAh battery - the battery can last for a day and half of medium to light usage
- Charging is quick with the supplied 30W charger - it can charge the F17 Pro under an hour
- The Oppo F17 Pro is a very likeable phone, mostly because of how slim and light it is, it looks quite modern thanks to the exposed-lens design of the rear cameras - battery life is also very good, it charges quickly, and it has a nice display
|
- Charming, fresh rear design - the Realme 7 Pro features a mirror-split design, which creates some interesting patterns when light hits it
- The front now has a single camera which sits to the top-left of the phone and looks sleek
- Even though it uses plastic for the frame, the Realme 7 Pro feels well-built and sturdy
- The in-display fingerprint sensor works well, and face recognition is equally quick
- The Realme 7 Pro is slimmer (8.7mm) and lighter (182g), compared to the Realme 6 Pro - makes it a lot more comfortable to hold and use
- Punchy, vivid AMOLED 6.4 inches panel - it is bright, colours are rich, and thanks to this type of panel, the 7 Pro has an always-on display mode
- Software on the Realme phones is much improved since the company switched to Realme UI, it is easy to use - it is also packed with features such as Digital Wellbeing, Focus Mode, Dark Mode, and Riding Mode among others - there are some exciting and useful features like Realme Dual-Mode Audio, which allows you to connect a Bluetooth and a wired headset at the same time to listen to music on the smartphone
- Excellent performance for the price - the Realme 7 Pro gets to keep the same SOC as the 6 Pro, the Snapdragon 720G is a powerful chip, so as expected, general usage and multitasking is handled superbly - gaming performance is nothing to scoff at, the phone handles heavy games like PUBG mobile with ease
- Good quad cameras at the back - the main unit boasts a 64MP sensor, with an 8MP ultra-wide lens, a 2MP micro and a 2MP depth sensor - Realme has upgraded the main sensor with a Sony sensor instead of a Samsung sensor on the Realme 6, everything else remains the same
- The daylight photos from the main sensor preserve the natural colour and have good exposure - it exhibits improved dynamic range, with better details compared to the Realme 6 - the new sensor is slightly better than the old one in the Realme 6
- The ultra-wide camera captures a wider perspective but details and colours are weaker compared to the main sensor as expected
- Portrait shots generally look good, and you get the option to adjust the background blur before shooting
- Low light photos look cleaner too, with less grain - shots captured using Night mode look more pleasing, compared to what the Realme 6 can produce
- The 16MP camera can take decent selfies - The selfie portrait mode is useful as it manages to correctly crop out the background, and there's also Night mode for bright selfies even in the dark
- Video rec. is decent, you have the option to rec. up to 4K without stabilisation - there's also Ultra Steady mode which offers great stabilisation but videos look a bit soft - ultra-wide camera videos are stabilised but less detailed, the resolution is limited to 1080p
- Overall, the cameras on the Realme 7 are a bit improved than the previous gen, which always a good thing
- The Realme 7 Pro boasts a stereo speaker setup - the stereo effect is good, as the earpiece gets almost as loud as the bottom-firing speaker, and Dolby Atmos helps boost the volume and audio fidelity
- Very good battery life from the 4500 mAh battery - even with medium to heavy usage, it will get you a day and half of runtime on one charge
- 65W SuperDart Charge fast charging is best in class and takes just about 40 mins to fill up the phone
- Realme has done a fairly good job in crafting the 7 Pro - it brings some meaningful upgrades to the Realme 6 Pro in the form of an AMOLED screen, stereo speakers, and much faster charging

2-minute Review [Negatives] |
- Lacks a high refresh rate panel, that other phones offer
- However, heavy usage bogs down the phone quite a lot, there are better performing phones available at this price
- Low-light camera performance is average, the images lack details - there is visible noise in the darker regions, which you can clearly see - the Night mode helps brighten up scenes, but the overall image quality and color reproduction are above average
- However, the camera performance could have been much better - then there's performance, which, while decent in its own right, does feel a little weak compared to phones such as the Realme 7 Pro and Redmi K20 Pro, which are also available at similar prices
|
- Realme downgraded the display in terms of refresh rate and it's a 60 Hz display
- There are still several pre-loaded apps however (though most of these can thankfully be uninstalled)
- The 2MP macro camera is not great, and even photos taken in broad daylight look quite poor
