2-minute Review [Positives] |
- Absolutely captivating, premium, glass-and-metal design - arguably the best design of 2019 so far - the OPPO Reno 10x Zoom is a sight to behold, both front and back
- The absence of any notch and the thin bezels on all sides gives the phone a distinct visual identity
- Excellent build quality
- The matte texture on the back glass gives it a bit of a grip and saves it from smudges (and for more careful users, OPPO also has a protective case in the box)
- Fast in-display fingerprint sensor
- Excellent, captivating AMOLED screen - large and notch-free - watching content on the screen is a treat
- Color OS 6 is now leaner, snappier, and more streamlined
- There are of course many add-on features as well - including Game space (to optimize game performance), Kids space (parental controls), Smart driving (for safety on the road), and special gestures for activating Google Assistant or switching to split-screen mode
- As you would expect from the flagship hardware underneath, the Reno 10x performs like a beast, matching other 2019 flagships beat for beat
- The main highlights of the Reno 10x however are the impressive set of cameras, both front and back
- The rear setup boasts of three cameras - 48MP primary camera + 8MP ultra-wide + 13MP telephoto, that's capable of an impressive 5x optical zoom, and up to 10x Hybrid zoom (similar to the current camera champ, Huawei P30 Pro)
- The overall quality of images is excellent, and comparable to the best flagships - though not quite as good as the amazing P30 Pro - but that's in any case a very high benchmark
- The other star of OPPO’s show is the front facing camera, with an intriguing shark fin pop-up design, that's sure to turn heads - the quality of the selfies is pretty good too
- Video recording quality is very good too, and again comparable to other flagships
- Excellent, class-leading battery life with a 4065mAH battery combined with some good software optimization - you will comfortably stretch it 2 days with light to moderate use
- Excellent VOOC fast-charging, one of the best fast-charging technologies in the industry at present - you will get a full charge in about an hour
- Overall, with the cracking set of cameras, a beautiful design, an excellent battery life, and a more streamlined software experience from ColorOS, Reno 10X feels like an extremely well executed flagship, and is more than worthy of consideration alongside other top Android flagships like the OnePlus 7 Pro (More fluid 90Hz screen, and has stereo speakers, but the cameras are not as versatile), Samsung Galaxy S10 (stereo speakers, headphone jack, IP-rated water protection, but the cameras are not as versatile, and the screen has a punch-hole), and the Huawei P30 Pro (better camera package, but not quite as good looking)

- Attractive looking smartphone - one of the better designed in its price segment - the glass body adds to the overall premium aesthetics of the Vivo V17 Pro
- The good bit is despite sporting so many cameras the design of the quad-camera module on the back has clean lines and doesn't look cluttered
- The front is a sharp, modern all-screen affair - the dual front cameras are embedded in a broad pop-up module
- The in-display fingerprint sensor is fast and unlocks the smartphone quickly
- Beautiful 6.44-inch, notch-free, Super AMOLED display with a screen-to-body of 91.65 per cent - in other words, lots of screen, lots of pixels, and a great screen for watching videos
- The full-screen display also get pretty bright in all lighting conditions, and exhibits very good viewing angles
- The Vivo V17 Pro also comes with an always-on display option, which is useful
- Solid, smooth performance with the Snapdragon 675 at the core - every-day use to gaming - it's all lag-free
- Excellent 6 camera setup - 4 on the rear (48MP primary Sony IMX582 sensor, 13MP telephoto lens, 8MP wide angle lens and 2MP depth sensor for portrait shots) + 2 on the front (32MP primary shooter and second camera is an 8MP super wide-angle lens)
- The Vivo V17 Pro captures some great shots, especially in good light - details are great, and colors are original-like - the dynamic range is also pretty good
- The ultra wide-angle lens offer a new perspective and lets users click wider area at close range to the subject
- The camera app also includes a super macro mode that again captures good amount of details and spot-on colours
- Low light performance is respectable too - especially if you use the handy Night mode
- The Vivo V17 Pro also clicks pretty good selfies with accurate facial details
- Low light performance in selfies is helped too by the Night mode
- The second 8MP front camera can be used to click decent group selfies
- Overall, the Vivo V17 Pro is one of the better phones you can buy right now under Rs 30, 000 if you want good camera performance
- Very good battery life with a large 4100mAh battery - you will get about 1.5 days of moderate use
- With the 18W fast charging support, it takes around 1.5 hours (approx) to charge the V17 Pro fully with its bundled charger
- If camera and design are your primary priorities, the Vivo V17 Pro is an good choice to consider in the under 30k segment - it does very well on both those parameters

2-minute Review [Negatives] |
- On the heavy side, at 215g
- Though it packs lesser bloatware than before, it's still not as neat and simple as stock Android or light skins such as OxygenOS
|
- A bit bulky/chunky
- No face unlock
- Software continues to be a relative weak point for Vivo, with a cluttered Funtouch UI (though it is quite feature-packed)
- This is certainly not the best performing phone of this price bracket though - you get a much more powerful Snapdragon 855 in the cheaper Redmi K20 Pro - in fact, there are the Vivo Z1 Pro and the Vivo Z1X that again cost less and come with a newer Snapdragon 712
- Sub-par low-light video quality
- If you are looking for an all-rounder though, you will have better options around especially in terms of software & performance - you will want to look at the likes of Realme XT, and Redmi K20 Pro
