2-minute Review [Positives]
  • Fresh, bright and vibrant design, with a gleaming, reflective rear panel - you'll see light play across the surface when using this phone, giving the feeling of depth - identical to the Redmi Note 9 Pro
  • The front of the phone looks modern and defies expectations for its price category with an edge to edge display and just a small camera cutout at the top centre
  • Fingerprint sensor is integrated into the power key, and it is swift at unlocking the phone
  • Infrared emitter is on the top and can be used to control several home appliances
  • There's also a notification and charging LED hidden in the earpiece, a rarity to find in modern smartphones
  • Bright, crisp and large 6.67-inch IPS display with a tall 20:9 aspect ratio - the panel delivers punchy and vibrant colours and the large screen work nicely for consuming videos and games
  • MIUI is one of the more refined and smooth Android skins around, and has a lot of customisation/theming options - there are ample features for power users - from gestures to the ability to switch around button layouts as well as a robust home screen customisation experience, you can make the phone your own
  • Class-leading performance for the price backed by the snappy Snapdragon 720G - the Poco M2 Pro is more than powerful enough to handle anything from basic calls and messaging up to heavy 3D gaming, with no trouble whatsoever, multitasking is also smooth and trouble-free
  • Decent quad cameras for the price - a 48MP primary shooter, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens, a 5MP macro camera and a 2MP depth sensor
  • In daylight, the primary camera takes reasonably good shots - Poco has opted for a very natural-looking colour science, the colour temperature and white balance are spot-on which is very good to see, and the dynamic range isn't too bad either
  • The ultra-wide-angle mode works well to capture a wide frame without much effort, and the quality is decent
  • Poco has done a particularly good job at optimising the portrait mode, and the phone does a fantastic job at edge-detection, creating a natural-looking blur
  • The macro camera delivers much higher quality shots than from most other 2MP macro cameras
  • The 16MP front camera is fairly good in the daytime as well as at night - details are good, and portrait shots have nicely blurred backgrounds
  • Very good battery life with the 5020 mAh battery - with ordinary use, the Poco M2 Pro easily lasts through a full day and nearly half of the second day before needing a recharge
  • Superb fast charging with the 33W fast charger in the box takes just an hour to fill the phone
  • The Poco M2 Pro succeeds at delivering value, a decent camera, class-leading internals and beautiful design for the low price is certainly tempting - if class-leading fast charging is what you want, the Poco M2 Pro delivers the best bang-for-the-buck
  • Trendy rear design - the Realme 7i features a similar design as other Realme 7 series phones, the glossy back creates some interesting patterns when light hits it
  • The front too looks similar with a hole-punch and thin bezels all around
  • Face unlock and the side-mounted fingerprint sensor are quick
  • The Realme 7i gets a vibrant 6.5 inches IPS LCD - the 90 Hz refresh rate is a class leading feature
  • The 90Hz refresh rate makes for smoother scrolling and animations
  • Software on the Realme phones is much improved since the company switched to Realme UI, it is easy to use - it is also packed with features such as Digital Wellbeing, Focus Mode, Dark Mode, and Riding Mode among others - there are some exciting and useful features like Realme Dual-Mode Audio, which allows you to connect a Bluetooth and a wired headset at the same time to listen to music on the smartphone
  • Average, inconsistent performance from the Snapdragon 662 - regular tasks such as scrolling, opening apps, texting is fine for a phone, but it is inconsistent, stuttering animations and delayed app load times bugs the overall performance
  • Good quad cameras at the back - the main unit boasts a 64MP sensor, with an 8MP ultra-wide lens, a 2MP micro and a 2MP depth sensor - this setup is similar to the one on the Realme 7 and in real-world scenarios, it performs similarly
  • The daylight photos from the main sensor preserve the natural colour and have good exposure - it exhibits improved dynamic range, with better details compared to the Realme 6 - the new sensor is slightly better than the old one in the Realme 6
  • The ultra-wide camera captures a wider perspective but details and colours are weaker compared to the main sensor as expected
  • Portrait shots generally look good, and you get the option to adjust the background blur before shooting
  • Low light photos look cleaner too, with less grain - shots captured using Night mode look more pleasing, compared to what the Realme 6 can produce
  • The 16MP camera can take decent selfies - the selfie portrait mode is useful as it manages to correctly crop out the background, and there's also Night mode for bright selfies even in the dark
  • Overall, the cameras on the Realme 7i are a bit improved than the previous gen, which always a good thing
  • Very good battery life from the 5000 mAh battery - even with medium to heavy usage, it will get you a day and half of runtime on one charge
  • Decent fast charging - the 18W fast charger fills up the big battery in just over 2 hours
  • The Realme 7i is a good smartphone, considering all the features and specifications it offers at its price - the 90Hz display is appealing, on top of that, Realme has thrown in a 64-megapixel camera, which none of its rivals feature
2-minute Review [Negatives]
  • At 8.8mm thick and 209g in weight, the Poco M2 Pro is bulky and unwieldy
  • It is a standard 60Hz panel and doesn't have a high refresh rate - this is a missed opportunity that puts the Poco M2 Pro on the back foot compared to its peers
  • It continues to pack a lot of bloat though - you get many pre-installed applications with wide-ranging requirements for user permissions
  • Low light photography is average, images are grainy with digital artefacts and splotches creating a nearly unusable shot
  • Overall, this is not the best camera setup at this price and this time Realme has done a better job which with its Realme 6 which offer better cameras at this price
  • However, the Realme 6 out-specs the Poco M2 Pro with its high refresh-rate 90Hz display panel, as well as the inclusion of a 64MP camera that genuinely takes better images
  • The plastic material doesn’t feel solid, it catch scratches easily - additionally, it loves dust and fingerprint smudges
  • The Realme 7i is on the heavier side weighing at 188 gms
  • Sunlight legibility is poor
  • Resolutions on the lower side at HD+, phones like Redmi Note 9 offer Full HD+ display at similar price
  • There are still several pre-loaded apps however (though most of these can thankfully be uninstalled)
  • The 2MP macro camera is not great, and even photos taken in broad daylight look quite poor
  • However, the Redmi Note 9 is a more well-rounded package at the same price, there's also the Motorola Moto G9 which offers better overall experience (stock Android), superior battery life and decent cameras
