2-minute Review [Positives] |
- Well built, sleek, modern design, with a Infinity-U display
- Eye-catching back panel with a gradient and prism-like finish
- Large, vivid Super AMOLED, Infinity-U display with slim borders all around - everything looks colour accurate and bright
- The Galaxy A30s runs on Samsung's new One UI, which is one of the more polished, refined takes on an Android UI, and is one of the best Android UI implementations at present, along with Oxygen OS
- There are a number of useful features including Android Pie's Digital Wellbeing, and a whole bunch of motion gestures such as one-handed mode, Smart Stay, etc, which can be toggled on
- Decent performance with a Exynos 7904 processor at the core (similar to Snapdragon 636) - day-to-day use is decent and complex games like PUBG are also playable at reduced graphics settings
- Decent triple rear camera setup - primary 25MP sensor + 5MP depth sensor + 8MP ultra-wide sensor
- The 25MP camera reproduces objects and panoramic scenes well, colours always look vivid - the edges of objects and textures lack clarity, though
- The Primary camera can also take good macro shots - it capture more details than when in general shots, edges of objects are more distinguishable too
- Good video quality - on par with that of other phones in this price range
- Front camera shoots vibrant-looking portraits
- Good Loudspeaker
- Good call quality - it gets loud enough to make and receive calls from noisy environments
- The 4000mAh battery is one of the Galaxy A30s's strong suits - you will easily manage to push past a full day on one charge
- The bundled 15W fast charger is able to take the battery to about 70 percent in an hour, which is not bad at all
|
- Attractive, eye-catching glossy plastic rear panel with a beautiful multi-coloured gradient finish, that catches the light as you tilt the phone around
- The front is sharp and modern with a 6.54-inch Full HD+ display, thin bezels, and a punch-hole camera on the top-left corner of the display
- On the whole, the Z1 Pro is arguably the best designed phone of this price segment
- Has a handy dedicated Google Assistant button
- Large, sharp Full HD+ display, with good viewing angles, and sunlight legibility - you get an immersive experience while watching videos, playing games and consuming other multimedia content on it
- Vivo's Funtouch OS UI is fairly feature packed, and aesthetically is similar to iOS
- There is also now a ‘Dark Mode’ feature that turns almost all the popular apps dark
- The Vivo Z1 Pro also has a gaming assistant and mode rolled into one called Game Cube - it offers functions like blocking background calls, blocking notifications, reject calls during gaming, turning on Esports Mode and other things
- Excellent, class-leading performance with the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 712 processor - you will get snappy performance all-round, and even high-end games will run effortlessly in their 'high graphics' settings
- The smartphone also has good temperature control, so even with long times of gaming, there isn't much heating up
- Good set of triple rear cameras (16-megapixel primary camera + 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera + 2-megapixel depth sensor)
- You get some pretty detailed photos in most lighting conditions - the color reproduction and balancing is quite accurate as well
- On the front, it comes with a excellent 32-megapixel snapper, which again does very well with details
- Overall, this is a good camera setup for the price bracket, and only a bit behind the top cameras of the Redmi Note 7 Pro, and the Realme 3 Pro
- Excellent battery life, with a huge 5000mAh battery - you will get a comfortable 2 days even with heavier use
- Fast charging support - the device goes from 0 to 100% in 2 hours - which is pretty decent for the battery size
- The Z1 Pro looks like a smart winner from the Vivo camp, with hardly any flaws, and an excellent performance to price ratio - if you value performance in a phone, or are into gaming, this is the mid-range phone to get - if you are looking for the best possible cameras instead, then the Redmi Note 7 Pro, and Realme 3 Pro have a slight advantage
|
2-minute Review [Negatives] |
- The fingerprint sensor is sluggish - and cannot recognise fingerprints accurately
- The Galaxy A30s is also a big phone to carry around, even if you have large hands
- The resolution is only 720p which is rather low by today's standards
- Unfortunately, there are still plenty of promotions, and ads to deal with, in the default phone setup
- Given however, that other phones in this price range now come with much more powerful SoCs like the MediaTek Helio G90T and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 675, the A30s does lag behind the competition in terms of performance
- The front 16-megapixel selfie camera is average - selfies are a bit soft in daylight and in low-light, selfies lack good detail, with visible grain
- Camera struggles in low-light conditions - it captures hardly any details and underexposes the whole scene, with a lot of noise
- Camera app does not have a slow-motion mode
- Overall, the A30s is not quite as good as Samsung's other recent launches in the M and A series
- It will face very stiff competition from the likes of the Redmi Note 8 Pro, which apart from being much more powerful, also takes a big lead in the camera department
- Even if you want to stick to Samsung, the M30s will give you a slightly better camera performance, a bigger battery, and storage - so, significantly better value
|
- On the heavy and bulky side (thanks to the large battery it packs)
- The display does not have a Widevine L1 certification - as a result, you can stream videos available on the over-the-top platforms such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Videos at a maximum resolution of only 480p — not HD or fullHD
- For people who like a stock Android interface though, Funtouch OS may not be to their taste (once again, it's more iOS like in its aesthetic, and also packs some bloatware)
