2-minute Review [Positives] |
- Looks slick, and reflects off the same iridescent rainbow-like effects at the back as the Samsung Galaxy A50 when caught against light, only this one, comes with a prism-like pattern that Samsung calls a “3D prism design” - it's a head-turner no doubt
- And while the Samsung Galaxy A50s bears a polycarbonate body, it doesn’t look cheap and sports a very premium “glassy” look overall
- On the front is a sharp, modern panel with slim-bezels, and a U-shaped notch design (similar to Galaxy A50)
- Facial recognition to unlock your phone works well
- Beautiful 6.4-inch Full HD+ Infinity-U Super AMOLED display with a high 91.6% screen-to-body ratio, and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for protection
- The screen looks sharp and bright, and being an AMOLED display, you will get deep black and vivid colors - sunlight legibility is also pretty good
- Samsung's One UI is now one of the better, more clean and streamlined Android UIs around, and is well optimised for modern large displays (like this one)
- Samsung has also added a Game Booster tool to the A50s to offer a better gaming experience
- Other features include an intuitive gesture-based navigation system, and an option to wake up Bixby using the power button
- Solid mid-range performance with the robust Samsung Exynos 9611 SoC (similar to Snapdragon 660 and Exynos 9610) - the experience is pleasant and smooth throughout including with games like PUBG Mobile and Asphalt 9
- Good thermal management too - the phone doesn't warm up quickly despite extended game play
- Decent set of triple rear cameras for the price bracket - a 48MP primary camera with an f/2.0 aperture
- a second 5MP depth camera with f/2.2 aperture, and a third 8MP ultra-wide lens
- The quality of the pictures from the primary camera is quite good during daylight and outdoors - the A50s handles high-contrast scenes well and adds the right amount of detail and vibrance
- Night mode works reasonably ok for low-light situations and doesn’t add unnatural exposure to the scene
- Portrait mode ("Live focus") works well too especially when capturing outdoor daylight scenes
- Decent video recording performance with a dedicated 'super steady' mode which allows you to shoot decent “action” videos
- Decent 32MP selfie camera - in daylight outdoor lighting, selfies clicked turn out quite clear (not so much is low-light though)
- Overall, this is a fairly good camera setup for this price bracket (though not quite up to the level of the category leaders)
- Very good battery life with a 4000mAh battery - you will get about 1.5 days of use
|
- Decent looks and build quality - identical to the Samsung Galaxy M31, with a a unibody polycarbonate design, and glossy finish on the back panel - this is the same phone as the Galaxy M31 in every way, without a macro camera
- The plastic body keeps the phone feeling relatively lightweight at 191 grams, which is mighty impressive for a phone packing a big 6000 mAh battery
- It also feels great to hold with a seamless curved panel that meets the display up front
- Modern, Infinity-U front - bezels around the screen are slim, except for a slightly thick chin - you still get around 90 per cent screen-to-body ratio, which is great
- Fingerprint sensor at the back is easy to reach
- Gorgeous, 6.4-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display with excellent viewing angles, and brightness levels - easily one of the best displays in the price bracket
- It also comes with "Widevine L1" certification, which helps stream content in crisp HD resolution
- Blacks are deep on the AMOLED display, which looks good with Night mode enabled
- Samsung's OneUI is today one of the more clean, refined Android UIs that's especially well optimised for large displays like this
- One UI also brings in other useful stuff, like a System-wide Dark mode (which turns the background completely black, and looks great on the F41s' AMOLED display), and Always On Display option
- Decent performance with the Exynos 9611 at the core (similar to Snapdragon 665) - the device is fairly quick to load up apps - multitasking is a breeze
- Good triple rear camera setup - 64MP main sensor + 8MP wide-angle lens + 5MP depth sensor
- Shots taken with the primary camera during daylight are quite satisfactory, images are detailed, especially the 64MP shots, and they showcase good dynamic range
- The ultra-wide sensor, like on any budget phone, is a good addition - it takes social media-worthy images in great lighting conditions (in low-light, the quality dips and pictures look grainy and noisy, wide-angle shots also have barrel distortion at the edges)
- Photos taken in low-light looks good - switching to Night mode helps reduce grain in the output and further improves image quality
- Live Focus shots are quite impeccable and the camera app does give you the option to set the level of blur before taking a shot - edge detection is very good and the Galaxy F41 does a good job of separating the subject from the background
- The macro camera takes decent shots outdoors (though, the quality dips when indoors and the output is restricted to 5MP in resolution)
- The 32MP selfie camera is quite good and takes detailed selfies (though, in low light, the quality goes down a notch and results are grainy)
- Overall, the cameras on the F41 are good for the price bracket, even though they are not the best (that title crowned to the POCO X3)
- Monster 6000mAh battery delivers an incredible 2-3 days of usage easily, making for one of the largest battery life smartphones currently available
- Supports 15W fast charging
|
2-minute Review [Negatives] |
- The fingerprint sensor that sits beneath the display, is a tad bit slow
- The phone is a smudge-magnet, relatively easy to scratch, and also slippery (so you will want to use a case)
- This is however not the best performing phone in this price bracket - you will get better CPUs and stronger performance from Xiaomi and Realme phones
- The camera app is a little bit slow to launch and there is a small shutter lag when capturing photos
- As is right now the case with most mid-range phones, the wide-angle camera’s photos look fairly distorted, and details are soft
- Low light performance could have been better, across the board
- Volume levels of the speaker are a bit on the low side and could have been better - it's a little difficult to hear audio outdoors in a noisy environment
- Although the phone supports 15W fast charging, but it only includes a 10W standard (non fast) charger - it takes over 3 hours for A50s to go from 0% to 100%
- On the whole, the A50s, while a pretty decent phone by itself, will find the competition much more intense (than what its predecessor A50 faced) - unless you are a Samsung loyalist, you will want to look at the competition especially from the likes of Realme and Xiaomi
|
- The power button and volumes are quite flush with the frame which means they lack that tactile, clicky feel
- Design feels a bit dated and underwhelming, there is no spark in Galaxy F41's design as we see in other brand's phones like Xiaomi and Realme
- However, this is an old chipset and heavy gaming isn't best on this phone - the Redmi Note 9 Pro, the POCO X3 and the Realme 7 Pro are much better options that will handle gaming better than the Galaxy F41
- Samsung Galaxy M41 falls behind in fast charging as competitors are offering close to 30W fast charging, the 15W on F41 feels low
- Samsung is recycling its old phones by giving them a new name, this is the same phone as the Galaxy M31, without a Macro camera and the Galaxy M31 is selling for cheaper - if you find it selling cheaper, you can consider it, if they are at the same price, buy the Galaxy M31, it has an extra camera for you
