2-minute Review [Positives]
  • Gorgeous design, with a stunning prism light effect
  • The back is well rounded around the sides to make handling easier, and blends in with the curved glass on the front seamlessly
  • Has a good grip
  • The handling is also made easy by the excellent weight distribution of the phone which makes it seem a lot lighter than it is
  • Absolutely gorgeous, 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display, with a tiny water drop notch and a near bezel-less design - you get very vibrant colours and perfect inky blacks, as well as good sunlight legibility
  • Video viewing and gaming experience on the giant display is an absolute delight - as far as media consumption goes, this is simply one of the best phones out there, period
  • Running the Galaxy A70 is Samsung's new OneUI - which, as far as Android UIs go, is one of the most refined, well thought-out experiences
  • There are many useful add-ons on board - like gesture navigation, and a great 'dark' mode
  • Samsung Pay makes the cut too, making this the cheapest phone to sport the full version of the payments app, which will be especially useful if your usage usually relies largely on card payments
  • Good performance backed by the robust Snapdragon 675 SoC, 6 GB of RAM, and super fast UFS storage - everything from daily use to complex games like PUBG is fairly smooth (add that to the ridiculously wide display, and all gamers are in for a treat)
  • Decent triple-camera setup on the back with a primary 64-megapixel f/1.7 sensor, a secondary ultrawide 8-megapixel shooter and a third 5-megapixel depth sensor - images come out nice with true to life colors
  • The ultra-wide sensor provides some extra shot framing options
  • Decent video recording performance with good detail levels, including some impressive slow-mo video recording
  • Very good front camera - the 32-megapixel sensor does a great job at bringing out the detail in facial features and hair
  • The bundled in-ear earphones, when paired with Dolby Atmos, makes for a pretty good audio experience
  • The loudspeaker is decent (though not exceptional)
  • Very good battery life with a large 4500 mAh battery - it will comfortably last you a day and more, even with that large display
  • There is also fast charging on-board, with the included 25W charger getting you up to around 70% in an hour
  • If you are looking for the best media consumption device for your money, the Galaxy A70s is a good option - the large, beautiful Super AMOLED display + the big battery + Dolby Atmos support - make for an excellent combo
  • Sleek, classy design - the Galaxy M51 seems identical to the Galaxy A51, with a glossy polycarbonate back design - giving it a premium look
  • The front gets a new trendy look with a hole-punch display, similar to the Galaxy M31s
  • The phone feels solid in the hand - the 'glasstic back' offers better grip, and it is not as slippery as other phones with a glass back
  • The side-mounted fingerprint scanner is quick to unlock the device
  • Punchy, vivid and massive 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display - the display is one of the best in class panels with great colour reproduction and viewing angles
  • It also comes with "Widevine L1" certification, which helps stream content in crisp HD resolution
  • Blacks are deep on the AMOLED display, which looks good with Dark mode enabled
  • Samsung's OneUI is today one of the more clean, refined Android UIs that's especially well optimized for large displays like this one
  • One UI also brings in other useful stuff, like a System-wide Dark mode (which turns the background completely black and looks great on the M51's AMOLED display), and Always On Display option
  • Very good performance from the Snapdragon 730G - the chipset and Samsung’s OneUI optimization could take anything that you throw at it, switching across apps, moving across the UI, multitasking, and opening multiple Chrome tabs, social media is a breeze - heavy games like Call of Duty run smoothly without any lag
  • Samsung has fixed the only major drawback it had in other M-series phones with average performance, and this time the Galaxy M51 has no issue taking on the competition in performance
  • Good quad rear camera setup - 64MP main sensor + 12MP wide-angle lens + 5MP depth sensor + a 5MP macro camera - the Galaxy M51 carries the same camera setup as seen on the Galaxy M31s
  • Shots taken with the primary camera during daylight are quite satisfactory, images are detailed, especially the 64MP shots, and they showcase the good dynamic range
  • The ultra-wide sensor, like on any mid-range phone, is a good addition - it takes social media-worthy images in great lighting conditions (in low-light, the quality dips and pictures look grainy and noisy, wide-angle shots also have barrel distortion at the edges)
  • Photos taken in low-light looks good - switching to Night mode helps reduce grain in the output and further improves image quality
  • Live Focus shots are quite impeccable and the camera app does give you the option to set the level of blur before taking a shot - edge detection is very good and the Galaxy M31 does a good job of separating the subject from the background
  • The macro camera takes decent shots outdoors (though, the quality dips when indoors and the output is restricted to 5MP in resolution)
  • The single take is a nice addition from the more expensive S20 series, it lets you capture multiple formats at once
  • The 32MP selfie camera is quite good and takes detailed selfies (though in low light, the quality goes down a notch and results are grainy)
  • Overall, the cameras on the M51s are good for the price bracket, even though they are not the best
  • Mammoth, out of this world 7000mAh battery delivers an incredible 2-3 days of heavy usage easily, making the Galaxy M51 the largest battery life smartphones currently available
  • Supports 25W fast charging - the phone takes around 2 hours to charge the battery completely, which is decent
  • The Galaxy M51 brings very good value as its big battery, powerful cameras, and expansive display all help make a solid argument in the device's favour - the phone's Snapdragon 730G SoC also ensures that M51 offers enough in terms of raw power to help it tackle most things you throw at it
2-minute Review [Negatives]
  • This is a large phone though (one of the largest mainstream phones currently available), so one-handed use is pretty much out of the question - people with small hands would also want to look at other options
  • The glossy back is of course a smudge magnet, and will also pick up scratches easily
  • Having said that, there are certainly even better performing competitors around
  • Details and dynamic range on the rear camera setup could also be a bit better
  • Overall, for the price bracket, the camera package on the Galaxy A70 is decent, but not the best - you will find better camera phones in the competition
  • On the other hand, the competition is pretty tough - in the Xiaomi and Realme phones in this price bracket, you will find better performance, arguably better cameras, and more manageable sizes
  • The Galaxy M51 feels hefty at 9.5mm thickness and 213g weight - it is difficult to use for a longer duration for calls, streaming, or even gaming
  • The back of the Galaxy M51 is a fingerprint magnet - it can also get scratched easily since it is plastic
  • The display lags with a 60 Hz display, where competing phones like OnePlus Nord offer higher 90 Hz refresh rate
  • There's still great competition at this price and the OnePlus Nord has a lot up its sleeve with a newer processor, higher refresh rate display, and a best in class software
